Millions of people looking for a new job have had their personal data stolen and put for sale on dark web chat groups after several sites were breached.

Cybersecurity experts from Group-IB have released a new report outlining their research into a relatively new threat actor called ResumeLooters and how it was able to sell a huge database on the dark web.

ResumeLooters first emerged in November 2023, when it successfully compromised 65 job listing and retail sites using two techniques - SQL injection, and cross-site scripting (XSS). With the help of tools like SQLmap, Acunetix, X-Ray, or Metasploit, the attackers were able to scan the web for flaws, automate detection and exploitation of SQL injection flaws, develop and execute exploit code against targets, and more.

In it for the money

After successfully pinpointing and exploiting flaws on the sites, the attackers proceed to inject malicious scripts into different places in the HTML. Some injections will trigger the script, while others will simply display it, the researchers explained. The script’s goal is to display a phishing form that steals sensitive data from the visitors.

Apparently, the victims have had their full names, email addresses, phone numbers, employment history, education, and other relevant information, all taken. Plenty of information for a targeted spear-phishing attack, or even identity theft. Most victims are located in the APAC part of the world, in countries such as Australia, Taiwan, China, Thailand, India, and Vietnam.

After stealing the data, ResumeLooters tried to sell it on the dark web, Group-IB added. They offered it in two Telegram channels, using accounts with Chinese names. Even the tools they used were in Chinese, prompting the researchers to conclude that ResumeLooters are most likely from China.

They don’t seem to be state-sponsored, however, as the goal of the campaign was material.

“In less than two months, we have identified yet another threat actor conducting SQL injection attacks against companies in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Nikita Rostovcev, Senior Analyst at the Advanced Persistent Threat Research Team, Group-IB.

“It is striking to see how some of the oldest yet remarkably effective SQL attacks remain prevalent in the region. However, the tenacity of the ResumeLooters group stands out as they experiment with diverse methods of exploiting vulnerabilities, including XSS attacks. Additionally, the gang’s attacks cover a vast geographical area.”

Apple TV Plus is set to add an exciting new series called Margo’s Got Money Troubles to its portfolio that will star Elle Fanning (The Roads Not Taken, Neon Demon) and Nicole Kidman in leading roles, according to Deadline

Based on a soon-to-be-published book by author Rufi Thorpe, Margo’s Got Money Troubles will follow the story of Margo Millet (played by Elle Fanning), a young woman with a Hooters waitress mother and ex-professional wrestler father called Jinx. Deadline describes the upcoming series as "set in the world of OnlyFans with a wrestling twist" and if that hasn't piqued your interests enough, then the plot for it surely will.

The story goes like this: Margo enrolls at a junior college and ends up having an affair with one of her professors, which leads to her getting pregnant. As she grapples with the responsibilities of young adulthood, including caring for a baby without a job and on the brink of eviction, she decides to launch an OnlyFans account as a last ditch attempt to make money. Guided by her estranged father Jinx’s wrestling wisdom, she becomes an online sensation but then must deal with the complexities that come from internet stardom and a life lived online.

There’s no official word about when to expect the Margo’s Got Money Troubles series, but Rufi Thorpe’s book will be released by HarperCollins imprint William Morrow on June 11.

Another A24-produced series? We’ll take it

Deadline reports that Apple TV Plus outbid a number of competitors, including Netflix, to acquire Margo’s Got Money Troubles, underscoring Apple’s commitment to adding high-quality content to its streaming platform, and pulling in exciting new stories and big names to make sure it’s a success.

But will it be a success? It’s too early to tell. But it certainly bodes well that Margo’s Got Money Troubles has been greenlit for a straight-to-series order. It also has an impressive production team, including Kidman as executive producer, David E. Kelley as showrunner and potential co-writer, as well as Elle and Dakota Fanning’s Lewellen Pictures, with A24 as the studio handling production duties.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s because A24 already has a track record for producing some of the best TV shows of the past few years, as it’s the studio behind hit TV shows Beef on Netflix and HBO’s Euphoria. It also produced and distributed some of our favorite movies, too, like Everything, Everywhere All At Once and Midsommar.

This is the latest in a string of exciting new projects from A24. In late 2023, Variety reported that the studio had bought the rights to Paris Hilton's recent book, Paris: The Memoir, with similar plans to adapt it into a series. Just like Margo’s Got Money Troubles, both Elle and Dakota Fanning are lined up to executive produce the series about Paris' life as Lewellen Pictures.

Samsung is reportedly set to take the wraps off a number of cutting edge memory products at the upcoming 2024 IEEE International Solid-State Circuit Conference.

Alongside its previously announced GDDR7 memory, which will be making an appearance at the High-Density Memory and Interfaces session, the South Korean tech giant will also be unveiling a superfast DDR5 memory chip.

The high-capacity 32Gb DDR5 DRAM was developed using 12 nanometer (nm)-class process technology to deliver twice the capacity of 16Gb DDR5 DRAM within the same package size.

Lower power consumption

While Samsung hasn’t provided too much information about the DDR5 chip it will be unveiling at the conference, we do know the DDR5’s I/O speed is up to 8000Mbps per pin and it has been created with a Symmetric-Mosaic Architecture using Samsung's 5th generation 10nm class foundry node, specially tailored for DRAM products.

When the new DDR5 product was first announced at the end of 2023, SangJoon Hwang, Executive Vice President of DRAM Product & Technology at Samsung Electronics. said “With our 12nm-class 32Gb DRAM, we have secured a solution that will enable DRAM modules of up to 1-terabyte (TB), allowing us to be ideally positioned to serve the growing need for high-capacity DRAM in the era of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and big data. We will continue to develop DRAM solutions through differentiated process and design technologies to break the boundaries of memory technology.”

Previous DDR5 128GB DRAM modules, manufactured using 16Gb DRAM, required the Through Silicon Via (TSV) process. However, the new 32Gb DRAM allows the production of a 128GB module without the TSV process, reducing power consumption by about 10%, according to Samsung. This makes it a welcome solution for data centers which are currently battling with the ever increasing energy demands of AI.

Samsung's latest DDR5 technology allows for the creation of 32 GB and 48 GB DIMMs at DDR5-8000 speeds in single-rank configurations, and also support 64 GB and 96 GB DIMMs in dual-rank configurations. We will no doubt find out more about the new memory once the conference is underway.

I’m not much of an outdoor cook; living in the city doesn’t exactly afford much outdoor space, after all. Still, aside from that, the level of attentiveness needed with traditional barbeques makes them feel distinctly un-fun for a lazy cook like me.

However, this week I had the chance to set eyes on the latest addition to the range, the Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker, and it’s a machine that might finally convince me to start my grill master journey.

With its connected app allowing you the freedom to leave the grill to do its thing and its enormous capacity, the Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker makes for an excellent addition to your patio.

If it's hands-free, it's for me

If I’m hosting some kind of outdoor soirĂ©e, I’d much prefer enjoying the company of my friends and family than being glued to my BBQ on my quest for perfectly cooked hot dogs. Let’s face it, unless you’re really passionate about the craft, you just end up with a bad case of FOMO.

So, when I first heard about the original Ninja Woodfire I was a little unconvinced. Sure, the idea of an outdoor air fryer was cool, and I admired the wood smoking technology, but ultimately it felt just like an electric BBQ with a few frills, and certainly not enough to convert me to a bona fide BBQ fangirl.

In part, I still feel that way about some of the older models - though having tried some dishes cooked in a Woodfire this week I’d certainly say I underestimated the level of flavor imparted by Ninja’s wood chips. However, it’s Ninja’s newest model, the Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker (say that five times, fast) that has really converted me.

The Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker is the largest model of Ninja’s outdoor cooker, offering 30% more capacity than the original model. That’s roughly 10 burgers at once, or 6.8kg / 240oz of brisket, according to Ninja.

That’s a pretty impressive spec, but it also offers some cool added features that make it a particularly enticing option.

Paired with the Ninja Pro Connect app, the Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker is the first smart Ninja Woodfire, allowing you to remotely operate your grill and providing real-time cooking status notifications. Plus, there’s ample educational material and instructions, courtesy of Ninja.

It offers seven cooking functions; grill, smoke, air fry, roast, bake, reheat, and dehydrate, and has a built-in thermometer that allows users to cook and program two different types of meat simultaneously at different cooking levels.

The Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker uses the same, 100% real wood-burning pellets to deliver gorgeous smoky flavors, all without using any charcoal, gas, or flames, and in our review of the original Ninja Woodfire, we were impressed with how few were needed to deliver impactful flavor.

We don’t yet have pricing and availability information for the UK, but the Ninja Woodfire Pro Connect XL Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker is already available in the US for $449.75 directly from Ninja and third-party retailers like Amazon.

Almost a million WordPress websites were vulnerable to a flaw that allowed hackers to modify content on different pages.

A report from Wordfence noted the vulnerability could lead to hackers altering sensitive data and potentially exploiting the website builder system.

As per the report, the websites were vulnerable through a WordPress plugin called Website Builder, developed by SeedProd which has more than 900,000 active installations. The vulnerability involved a missing capability check in one of the plugin’s functions, allowing hackers to modify content on sites such as “coming soon”, maintenance pages, or 404 pages, created using the plugin.

Targeting plugins

WordPress websites with versions up to 6.15.21 of the plugin installed were vulnerable, the report further stated. SeedProd has addressed it, however, and released a patch bringing the plugin up to version 6.15.22. All WordPress website owners using the plugin are advised to apply the patch immediately.

The vulnerability itself is tracked as CVE-2024-1072, and carries a severity score of 8.2/10 in the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS), making it a “high risk” flaw.

WordPress is by far the world’s most popular website builder, powering almost half (43%) of all websites on the internet. This also makes it an extremely popular target among hackers. However, WordPress is generally considered safe, as less than 1% of all known vulnerabilities on the platform target the website builder itself.

Instead, hackers usually look for flaws in plugins and addons, as many of them aren’t as thoroughly monitored, or frequently updated, as they should be. This rings particularly true for non-commercial plugins, which are often built by a single developer, and sometimes abandoned, but still widely used. Administrators are advised to always keep all of their plugins updated.

Microsoft has given OneDrive a visual and functional makeover, rolling it out in an update for OneDrive personal users.

The update was announced last month by Microsoft, promising a revamped OneDrive user experience with a revised sleek design and powerful new features. Now, the update is actually rolling out to OneDrive personal users.

The tech titan posted the announcement on its official blog and it’s begun the gradual rollout to users, stating that the changes will be available to all OneDrive personal users by the end of February. It elaborates that the changes are purposely designed to help users perform tasks more quickly in OneDrive, as well as find it easier to focus on their files.

One of the new features that users can look forward to is People View. This will show users their contacts with all of the files that they collaborate on together - so you don’t have to remember the names of files if they’re shared between you and a contact. Often, we can remember who we share files with or who shares files with us more easily than a specific file’s name. Additionally, users will be able to filter files by type, so if you want to see all the Word documents or Excel spreadsheets on your OneDrive, you can use specific Word or Excel filters while searching.

 Additional OneDrive functionality

Microsoft has also expanded the Add New button’s functionality to give users the options to both upload to OneDrive or to begin a new document. Being able to do either from a single button, Microsoft hopes this will make working on OneDrive more streamlined for users.

It looks like these upgrades will apply to all users with a OneDrive account. You can access OneDrive on desktop with Microsoft 365 or online for free with a Microsoft account. In its announcement blog post, Microsoft also mentions that it’s open to feedback and you can provide your opinion in the OneDrive feedback portal.

It’s a solid set of developments for OneDrive that Microsoft willlooks set to deliver for a better organized and faster serviceOneDrive, as long as these changes arrive on time. If Microsoft continues along this path for OneDrive, I could see OneDrive becoming more and more users’ choice of cloud storage. You may be able to see these changes already if you have OneDrive but everyone or should be able to access them before the end ofsome time in  February.

With Filmora from Wondershare, creators of all skill levels can create professional quality videos and content with ease. From the DIY homemaker creating short content for YouTube to full-scale production teams working on episodic content, Filmora’s suite of tools can help you put out the best content with less work.
