What is it? From Banggood comes an unbranded computer called the CX6 and it is, for now at least, the cheapest Core i5 PC anywhere in the world that we know of.

What makes it special and why should I buy it? Other than being the most affordable Core i5 computer, it comes with two Gigabit Ethernet ports and can drive three monitors (two of them 4K). If you've found something similar with a lower price tag, let us know via Twitter!

How much does it cost? It is available from Banggood for $234.99 (about £174/AU$310) using the code BGdec23 for the CN warehouse. That's an extra $45 off the current sale price of $279.99. Overall, you get almost 20% off its suggested retail price. Hurry up though as the deal ends on January 31 2021.

CX6 mini PC: $279.99 $234.99 at Banggood
Save $45 using the code BGdec23 for the CN warehouse. The CX6 is a mini PC built like a tank and is packed with features. Hurry up! This offer ends on January 31, 2021.View Deal

What else should we know? The Core i5-5257U found in the CX6 is faster than the likes of the Celeron N4120 usually found in this price range but don't expect it to be as speedy as a recent Core i3. This cracking little computer also comes with 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, a spare SATA slot, three video ports (including a legacy VGA one), two Gigabit Ethernet port and surprise, surprise, an RS232 port. That's on top of six USB ports and an audio connector. Note that there's no card readers.

Any cons? We'd swap the Core i5 for a Pentium or a Core i3 of similar price but more recent. The Beelink U57 is a bit more expensive but is an interesting alternative as it has a Type-C connector and twice the storage for only $25 more.

Have you reviewed it? Not yet but if you want to see how a device with an Intel Core i5-5257U behaves, check out this review.

The ACLU has announced that it is suing the FBI over how the government agency has been secretly breaking the encryption that secures the smartphones and computers of American citizens.

The nonprofit organization has decided to file a lawsuit against the FBI as it refuses to acknowledge having information about these efforts despite the fact that some details have already been filed publicly in US federal court.

While the federal government has pressured tech companies to build encryption backdoors into their software and hardware in the past, the FBI has taken things a step further by building an in-house capability to break into users' devices.

According to publicly available information, a team within the FBI called the Electronic Device Analysis Unit (EDAU) has acquired or is in the process of acquiring software that allows the government to unlock and decrypt information securely stored on smartphones.

Additionally public court records describe instances where the EDAU appeared capable of accessing encrypted information off of a locked iPhone and the team even tried to hire an electronics engineer who would be responsible for “performing forensic extractions and advanced data recovery on locked and damaged devices”.

Glomar responses

In order to learn more regarding the EDAU and its capabilities, the ACLU recently filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requesting that the DOJ and the FBI disclose records relating to the EDAU and its technological capabilities for retrieving information from locked electronic devices.

However, the FBI responded by issuing Glomar responses to two of the nonprofit's requests which means that the agency has refused to even confirm or deny the existence of any records related to the EDAU. The problem with the agency's response is the fact that records pertaining to the EDAU exist as information about the unit is already public.

This is why the ACLU has asked a federal court to intervene and order the DOJ and FBI to turn over all responsive documents pertaining to the EDAU. The nonprofit is demanding that records be released that concern “any policies applicable to the EDAU, its technological capabilities to unlock or access electronic devices, and its requests for, purchases of, or uses of software that could enable it to bypass encryption”, according to a new blog post from the ACLU.

We'll have to wait and see whether or not the ACLU's lawsuit is successful but if the FBI does have the ability to access Americans' encrypted devices, everyone should be concerned for both their privacy and security.

Latest Tech News

A month back TechRadar, thanks to an exclusive interview, reported that MediaTek’s Dimensity chipset powered phones will be officially coming to India starting January 2021. While some brands were teasing a December launch, these phones are officially coming in January.

Now leaks suggest that Realme isn’t the only one to launch a MediaTek Dimensity powered phone and Oppo is also in line with the Oppo Reno 5G rocking a Dimensity 100 Plus chipset. These chipsets are said to help democratize 5G technology in the global markets especially India even though the country is yet to get 5G connectivity.

The phone was recently spotted on the BIS website with a model number CPH2201. Another tweet confirmed the presence of the same device in Singapore hinting at the global availability of the Oppo’s Reno 5 series

Earlier, Oppo India’s VP and Head of R&D Tasleem Arif teased about bringing the Reno 5 series to India right on the day of it’s unveiling back home in China. “Amazed to share that we revealed this great smartphone to shoot brilliant videos. Are you excited to get this global product in India? Guess you already know what I’m talking about!” – he tweeted.

Oppo Reno 5 series India launch date

While there is not much officially available about the Oppo Reno 5 series’ India launch yet, the BIS certification is more or less a confirmation about the impending Indian launch. Going by the previous launches and reports, the phone may launch sometime mid of next month.

We will have to, though, wait for an official confirmation. And in case the Reno 5 series is indeed making a debut next month, Oppo will start teasing about the launch in the next few days.

Oppo Reno 5 series specifications

The Reno 5 series consists of three different devices - Oppo Reno 5 5G, Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G and a yet to be launched Oppo Reno 5 Pro Plus.

We’re not sure which all devices will make their debut in India soon, however, all the three phones are 5G ready. The base variant i.e the Oppo Reno 5 sports a Snapdragon 765G SoC paired with Adreno 620 GPU and up to 12GB of RAM. The Reno 5 Pro rocks a Mediatek Dimensity 1000 Plus SoC coupled with ARM G77 MC9 GPU and up to 12GB of RAM.

Powered by Color OS 11 skin on top of Android 11, the Oppo Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro come with a 6.43 inches Full HD+ panel and 6.55 inches Full HD+ OLED panels each, respectively. The base variant has a 4300 mAh battery while the Pro variant has a slightly bigger 4350 mAh battery both supported by a 65W fast charging tech.

In terms of optics, both the phones come with a quad-camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary sensor coupled with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and two 2-megapixel sensors for depth and a 2-megapixel portrait shooter. Both the phones come with a 32-megapixel selfie sensor.

We will have to wait for the official confirmation if all the three variants get a green signal for the India launch.
