There are just two weeks until the OnePlus 7 launch date, and we've been receiving a steady drip-feed of OnePlus 7 rumors and leaks – but someone's actually got hands-on with the OnePlus 7 Pro and given its camera for a spin.
Wired took a few pictures with the OnePlus 7 Pro, and spoke to the imaging director at OnePlus, Simon Liu, to get a sense of OnePlus' newest plus-sized handset.
- This is what we know about the OnePlus 7 so far
- Check out our thoughts on the OnePlus 6T
- These are the best camera phones available now
One of the most important aspects of the camera is the fact it supports up to 3x lossless zoom, which is an improvement on the 2x lossless zoom introduced on the OnePlus 5 (although in reality it only supported 1.6x).
This allows you to take zoomed-in pictures without sacrificing quality, a feature many smartphone cameras now allow, although the OnePlus 7 Pro's 3x doesn't touch the Huawei P30 Pro at 5x lossless zoom.
AI out of the way
Another intriguing takeaway is that AI processing and scene optimization isn't going to be as prominent in the OnePlus 7 Pro as in other smartphone cameras – it'll still be there, but according to Liu it's now much more of a background feature than a visible indicator to tell you what kind of pet or plant you've pointed your device at.
In the handset, scene recognition and the different ways the phone alters the picture to take into account these factors, will be automatic and subtle instead of readily apparent – this'll make you feel much more like a pro photographer than if the phone kept remind you of how much it helps.
There's still a lot we don't know about the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro – we know the latter has three cameras, but we don't know the resolutions or lenses of them so far. Stay tuned to TechRadar for the OnePlus 7 launch event on May 14 for news, reviews and expert analysis on the products shown.

A new report from an analyst firm suggests that the PC gaming market is set to cool down in the foreseeable future, and that some 20 million gamers are set to abandon the PC in favor of playing the latest and greatest titles in front of the TV on a console (or indeed potentially via the cloud).
This comes from Jon Peddie Research (JPR), an outfit that often chimes in on the PC gaming front, particularly when it comes to facets such as graphics card market share, for example (in which Nvidia has pushed further forward with its domination of late).
JPR’s new report contends that as we go forward through to 2022, some 20 million PC gamers will “defect to TV gaming platforms”, an umbrella which covers the big consoles, plus the likes of Apple TV, and cloud gaming such as the incoming Google Stadia.
- We’ve listed all the best Xbox One games
- While these are the best PC games of 2019
- Don’t forget there are loads of top free games to download on PC
This shift will apparently be ‘loosely correlated’ with the global decline of the PC as a whole, with most of the defectors coming from the lower-end of the market (gaming PC builds which cost less than a thousand bucks).
JPR’s president, Jon Peddie himself, observes that: “The PC market continues to decline because the innovation that took place in the past providing speed ups and clever new things has all but stopped, plus the product introduction times are stretching out to four years.”
However, he adds: “This is not a panic situation and the GPU market still generates incredible volume. However, there are forces at work that we predict will drive some of this business toward TV displays and associated gaming services.”
It seems that said forces will primarily consist of better consoles with some real power boosts, as well as further console-exclusive games, and improvements in the quality of TV panels themselves.
That will be exacerbated by the fact that Moore’s Law is failing to hold, Peddie argues, meaning CPU makers are struggling to keep boosting the performance of processors at the same rate as in the past – the reason that the aforementioned product cycles are stretching to four years.
For whom the bell tolls
If all this sounds rather familiar, it’s because we’ve heard the death knell being rung for PC gaming in the past – and we’re not convinced this isn’t another overly alarmist call for a coffin, or at least to begin measuring for one, as it were.
Granted, it probably is true that TV gaming platforms, particularly driven by consoles, will likely grab more attention over the next few years, as 4K (or 8K) TVs boasting jaw-dropping graphics become more affordable, and consoles themselves become more powerful.
But PC gaming will always offer more on various fronts, such as in terms of community, modding, more openness – avoiding the need to pay a subscription for multiplayer games, for example – plus the ability to better customize your games and controls, or benefit from, say, 21:9 ultra-wide monitors.
And speaking of controls, the mouse and keyboard is obviously a major draw for many such as more serious shooter players. (Even though these peripherals have arrived for Xbox One recently, a living room couch is still hardly the ideal environment for using them).
Leaving aside the fact that it’s really very difficult to make predictions with any real conviction in this area, any impact that the cited slowdown in PC hardware gestation time stretching to four years will have is arguably minimal. What you’ve got to remember here is that processors are still plenty powerful today, with beefy models bristling with cores. Graphics card innovation continues, too, with, for example, DLSS boosting frame rates on Nvidia’s side, although it’s still early days for this tech.
And as for the threat the cloud poses in the slightly longer term, there are big worries about any potential lag from streaming games, for sure, no matter how insistent providers might be that latency won’t be an issue. We’re not convinced on this front, and there are plenty of further arguments why Google Stadia won’t be replacing a gaming PC any time soon.
Finally, as Hexus, which spotted this research, points out, it’s also arguable about how meaningful a 20 million strong defection away from the PC would be, as according to Statista, there were over 1.2 billion PC gamers as of the end of 2017. Other statistics previous to that (from the ESA) estimated some 1.2 billion folks gaming on a PC back in 2016, in actual fact.
So there are seemingly massed ranks of PC gamers out there, to which a change of heart from 20 million gamers would be far from catastrophic, even if that does happen – and as we’ve outlined, there are a number of fairly good reasons not to worry about that prospect, anyway.

As with any new console we imagine you're wanting to know a bit more about the console before you put any money down. So in addition to finding the best Nintendo Switch bundle deals, we're going to help bring in answers to the burning questions.
What are the Joy-Con controllers?
The Joy-Con controller is actually a pair of controllers that attach to the sides the the Nintendo Switch when not in use or when playing in tablet form away from the TV. When playing the Nintendo Switch on the TV, you can remove them and play with one in each hand. The left hand gets a controller with an analogue stick and d-pad, the right hand handles the one with a second analogue and the usual A, B, X and Y face buttons. Or you and a friend can use one each in multiplayer games with the d-pad doubling up as impromptu face buttons.
You get a pair with the console, but you might want to buy more to allow extra players to get involved in games like Mario Kart 8, FIFA 18 and many more. Or maybe you just fancy some different colors for your own use.
What's the Joy-Con Grip controller?
The Joy-Con Grip is an additional accessory that joins the two Joy-Con controllers together, forming something something a bit more solid for you to hold thanks to the extended handles and plastic block between the two sides. The square dimension form-factor may remind older gamers of the Dreamcast controller, while everyone else will mainly be thinking how it resembles an odd-looking dog face. Nintendo is providing one in the box with the Nintendo Switch, so you won't have to buy one separately. This won't charge your controller though and doesn't have a battery pack.
Yes and it doesn't come with the console. But you won't actually need one to play any games, so don't feel pressured in to buying one. The Nintendo Switch Pro controller is a more traditional-style pad and launched alongside the Nintendo Switch. Prices aren't cheap though, starting around $69.99/£64.99. There's currently no sign of a Nintendo Switch Premium Edition console with one included.
Do I need to buy extra controllers for multiplayer on Nintendo Switch?
Possibly not! Remember how the Joy-Con controller splits in two? Turn them sideways and you get two basic controllers, each with their own analogue stick and face buttons - the d-pad acts as face functions on the left controller. So far we've seen 2K's NBA series, Snipper Clips and Mario Kart being used this way for local multiplayer in both docked and tablet modes. So you get multiplayer functionality straight out of the box with no additional purchase required.
However, if you want to play four-player games, then you're going to need to invest in an extra pair of Joy-Con controllers or some Pro controllers. We'd buy the Joy-Cons as a pair (see our comparison chart above) as you'll save a bit of cash over buying them separately. Better yet, if your friends own a Switch, ask them to bring their controllers to the party!
Super Mario Odyssey deals
This has been one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch so far and an absolute must for Mario and platforming fans. Like Zelda below though, this being a first-party Nintendo title, it's taking forever to go down in price. It's slowly happening though, so we've rounded up the cheapest Super Mario Odyssey prices for you below. If you're not getting this game in a bundle, we'd strongly advise picking it up separately as soon as possible.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild deals
The reviews have heaped huge praise upon this eagerly awaited launch title, making it an essential purchase for any Nintendo Switch buyer. As with any new console, the prices of the big games can be more expensive than usual. We've shopped around for you though and have found the best prices for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch. Take a look below.
With only 32GB of internal storage, you'll be wanting to pick up a cheap memory card or two for your new Nintendo Switch for any digital purchases or the inevitable game-fixing patches. Don't fret though, they're actually surprisingly cheap, with even 64GB ones coming in at under £20/$25.
What memory cards does the Nintendo Switch need? Those will be Micro SD cards also known as, depending on their size, as MicroSDHC (up to 32GB) or MicroSDXC (up to a huge 2TB soon). Nintendo also has their own branded cards, but you'll be paying more, just for a label. So for now, we'd take a look at this range of cheap MicroSDXC Nintendo Switch-friendly cards.

The newly launched OPPO Reno smartphone gives users more than ‘just another smartphone’; OPPO Reno represents OPPO’s mission of daring to break through an endless revolution.
This is a smartphone that represents creativity, encourages individual expression, and stands out from the crowd with its notch-free real full panoramic screen and a quirky, attention-grabbing shark-fin rising camera.
The only real full screen smartphone in the market
Setting a new standard for the smartphone industry, OPPO Reno is the only smartphone available in the GCC with both a real full screen and self-rising camera. Without the typical hole-punch, waterdrop, or notched screen that other smartphones feature, OPPO Reno offers better visual perception with its panoramic 6.6-inch screen, with a ratio of up to 93.1%.
OPPO has upgraded the screen on its Reno smartphones, with an OLED light-emitting material and an eye protection mode certified by TÜV Rheinland that filters out more than 80% of blue light. The ultra slim bezel gives OPPO Reno users stunning visuals – and more of them, given the large display size. Corning Gorilla Glass 6 provides greater screen durability, too.
Interesting shark-fin rising camera
While its panoramic screen is certainly a stand-out feature, the OPPO Reno series goes where no smartphone has gone before with its 16MP shark-fin (Pivot) Rising Selfie Camera, changing the concept of mobile photography. With this unique camera, taking fantastic shots with professional-grade quality is incredibly easy.
The pivot mechanism means that the front camera – as well as the earpiece, front and rear flash – is hidden, so as not to interrupt the notch-free panoramic screen experience. When capturing a photo with the front camera, the pivot mechanism automatically engages, rising within 0.8 seconds. Once you’ve snapped your selfie, the camera retracts.
The Shark-fin (Pivot) Rising Structure has also passed strict quality testing standards and can be used for more than 200,000 times without fail. Even if average users use it roughly 100 times per day, it can maintain over 5 years of usage. Furthermore, OPPO designed a drop protection mechanism for it. The phone can sense in real time when the phone is in free-fall, and will automatically retract the camera to prevent damage to it.
Incredible zoom-in technology
With the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition, users can push their creativity even further. The smartphone features a tri-lens full-focal length capability, combining a 48MP HD primary lens, a 13MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP wide angle lens to create stunning depth in every pristine photo captured.
All three lenses work together to achieve a full-focal-length coverage of 16mm-160mm, thereby offering more than 10x hybrid zoom. Its 120° wide angle camera makes it easier to capture a wider range – so you can fit everyone in comfortably when taking a multi-person portrait!
From its stunning aesthetics to its unique features, everything about the OPPO Reno smartphone series is designed with creativity in mind. The OPPO Reno is a smartphone that encourages you to pursue your dreams and explore life through self-expression and creation.
With the OPPO Reno, a world of creativity opens up around you.

Internet service providers selling not only broadband deals but also SIM only deals is not a new concept. The likes of BT, Plusnet, Virgin and Vodafone all do it. But now Virgin has taken this a step further, combining the two into a set of affordable bundles.
The standout option is Virgin's new boosted bundles with massively increased speeds. That gives you options ranging from the Boosted Player Bundle, offering a 2GB data SIM, doubled fibre speeds and tonnes of channels. All the way up to Virgin's slightly insane V.VIP package with tonnes of channels, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, incomprehensible speeds of 516Mb and an unlimited SIM - there is a lot to choose from with these offers. Prices for these packages start at £41 a month.
Or if you don't like any of Virgin's pre-set bundles, there is even the option to customise your own. You start with Virgin's Player Bundle and then you add what you want. Choose channels, data plans for your SIM only and pick the exact speeds you want.
Aiming for inter-connectivity between both your phone and internet, these Virgin bundles will save you a tonne of money over getting them both separately. Virgin Media's Chief Operating Officer, Lutz Schüler said: “Whether it’s gathering the family to watch the latest blockbuster in 4K UHD or playing Fortnite on your phone, our new bundles provide seamless connectivity for the entertainment our customers and their families love"
You can see the main four bundles on Virgin's website or customise your own to pick exactly what you want. You can also compare these prices to all of Virgin's offers on our best Virgin broadband deals page.

What is 5G?
5G networks are the next generation of mobile internet connectivity, offering faster speeds and more reliable connections on smartphones and other devices than ever before.
Combining cutting-edge network technology and the very latest research, 5G should offer connections that are multitudes faster than current connections, with average download speeds of around 1GBps expected to soon be the norm.
The networks will help power a huge rise in Internet of Things technology, providing the infrastructure needed to carry huge amounts of data, allowing for a smarter and more connected world.
With development well underway and testbeds already live across the world, 5G networks are expected to launch across the world by 2020, working alongside existing 3G and 4G technology to provide speedier connections that stay online no matter where you are.

What will 5G networks mean for me?
- Faster download and upload speeds
- Smoother streaming of online content
- Higher-quality voice and video calls
- More reliable mobile connections
- Greater number of connected IoT devices
- An expansion of advanced technologies - including self-driving cars and smart cities
How fast will 5G be?
It’s still not exactly known how much faster 5G will be than 4G, as much of the technology is still under development.
That being said, the networks should provide a significant upgrade to current download and upload speeds - with the GSMA proposing minimum download speeds of around 1GBps.
Most estimates expect the average speed of 5G networks to reach 10Gb/s, and some even think transfer rates could reach a whopping 800Gb/s.
This would mean that users could download a full-length HD quality film in a matter of seconds, and that downloading and installing software upgrades would be completed much faster than today.
Will I be able to get 5G networks on my phone?
Existing smartphones, tablet or other devices that were released when 4G networks were the standard may not be able to connect to 5G to begin with, or may incur extra costs to do so.
However following the 2020 deadline for the initial rollout, we should soon see devices coming with 5G connection as default.
Don't worry though - although 5G should represent a major step up from current 4G and 3G networks, the new technology won’t immediately replace its predecessor - at least, not to begin with.
Instead, 5G should link in with existing networks to ensure users never lose connection, with the older networks acting as back-up in areas not covered by the new 5G coverage.
So-called “4.5G” networks (also known as LTE-A) are set to fill the gap for the time being, offering connections that are faster than current 4G networks, although only certain countries such as South Korea can benefit from them right now.
Once launched however, implementing 5G may be a slower process. Much like the gradual takeover of 4G networks from the previous generation, existing network infrastructure may need to be upgraded or even replaced in order to deal with the new technology, and homes and businesses may also need to get new services installed.
It’s not yet known how 5G networks will take over from existing networks, but again, much like the rollout of 4G, you may not be able to immediately connect to the new networks without upgrading your technology.
What will a 5G network need?
The GSMA has outlined eight criteria for 5G networks, with a connection needing meet a majority of these in order to qualify as 5G:
- 1-10Gbps connections to end points in the field (i.e. not theoretical maximum)
- 1 millisecond end-to-end round trip delay (latency)
- 1000x bandwidth per unit area
- 10-100x number of connected devices
- (Perception of) 99.999 per cent availability
- (Perception of) 100 per cent coverage
- 90 per cent reduction in network energy usage
- Up to 10 year battery life for low power, machine-type devices
