Its premium chassis means it won't look out of place in the office either, but you'll still be well-equipped to play games. There are some higher-end Razer Blades discounted on Amazon, but stock is low at the time of writing.

Gaming

PlayStation Plus 12-month subscription | AU$79.95 AU$59.95 on Amazon (save AU$20)

Amazon has knocked AU$20 off an annual PlayStation Plus membership, which will get you access to online multiplayer for both PS4 and PS5, and offer up to three games for free a month. Those three games are usually good ones – the current selection includes Star Wars: Squadrons, Operation: Tango and Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown.

Nintendo Switch | AU$469.95 AU$399 on Amazon (save AU$70.95)

The Nintendo Switch Pro is rumoured to be releasing later this year, but if you don't want to wait, you can pick up the always-popular Nintendo Switch for less. The hybrid console is now AU$70 off on Amazon, available in both neon and the more reserved grey version.

Xbox Series S | AU$499 AU$449 on Amazon (save AU$50)

PS4 Slim | AU$439.95 AU$369 on Amazon (save AU$70.95)

DualSense Wireless Controller | AU$109.95 AU$87 on Amazon (save AU$22.95)

The PS5 console is frustratingly difficult to come by, but if you are one of the lucky ones, or you just have plans to buy one soon, then consider picking up this discounted DualSense controller from Amazon. It's enough of an advancement over the DualShock 4 that you'd expect a price hike, but it's still nice to pay under AU$90 for a second controller, or a replacement.

PS4 DualShock 4 controller | AU$89.95 AU$63.70 on Amazon (save AU$26.25)

The DualShock 4 has since been upgraded in the form of the PS5 DualSense controller, but it's still an excellent gamepad. It works like a charm, and it's compatible with the PS5 while playing PS4 games. In any case, we think it's wise to keep a spare around. Now discounted on Amazon in black.

Smartphones

Samsung Galaxy A12 (128GB) | AU$299 AU$247 on Amazon (save AU$52)

The Samsung Galaxy A12 is a super-cheap smartphone, and Amazon has just knocked the price down even further for its Mid-Year Sale. It has a 6.5-inch display, and on the rear is a four-camera array, including a 48MP main lens and a 5MP ultra-wide camera. Both the black and blue colours are discounted on Amazon, along with several other Samsung A-series smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy A32 (128GB) | AU$499 AU$394 on Amazon (save AU$105)

For a budget-priced phone, the Samsung A32 gets lots of things right, and very little wrong. It features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz screen and great cameras on the rear – four in total. Our four-star review found it snapped sharp, rich photos from all sensors too. Despite all this, battery life is impressively long. The phone is now discounted in black and violet on Amazon. Head to Amazon to see all the Samsung A-series phone discounts.

Audio

Sennheiser HD 450BT | AU$299 AU$178 on Amazon (save AU$121)

These excellent headphones are a much cheaper alternative to the Sony WH-1000XM4, and you’ll save further still with Amazon’s discount. These over-ear headphones sound detailed and clear, with a nice, warm bass. Noise cancellation is decent, though not class-leading, as our review found some outside noise could leak in. Now discounted in both black and white on Amazon.

Sennheiser CX 400BT True Wireless Earbuds | AU$299 AU$145.90 on Amazon (save AU$153.10)

Sennheiser’s CX 400BT earbuds get it right where it counts: they sound wide and detailed, are comfortable to wear and offer good touch control. These true wireless earbuds have been discounted fairly regularly, but this is one of the lowest prices we've seen. Available in black or white on Amazon.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 | AU$599 AU$376 on Amazon (save AU$223)

Boses's premium noise-cancelling headphones are discounted by almost 40% on Amazon at the moment. These headphones look good, sound great and are comfortable to wear. The active noise cancellation works whether you're listening to music or taking calls too, so you can cut out the distractions. Discounted on Amazon in black, silver and white.

Sony WH-1000XM4 | AU$499 AU$346 on Amazon (save AU$153)

We think Sony's WH-1000XM4 headphones are the best you can buy, with stellar sound quality and adaptive noise-cancelling capabilities. This isn't the biggest discount we've seen on these cans, but it's close, so if you're keen to buy you can save just over AU$150 on Amazon.

Bose QuietComfort 35 II | AU$399 AU$286 on Amazon (save AU$113)

This is a sweet deal on the QuietComfort 35 II. These headphones have class-leading noise cancellation and a nice, balanced sound that should satisfy most listeners. These may not be the flagship offering from Bose, but they’re cheaper, and come in a much more standard form factor. You’ll save AU$113 when you buy from Amazon in black or silver.

Shure Aonic 50 | AU$599 AU$359 on Amazon (save AU$240)

This was audio specialist Shure's first foray into wireless noise-cancelling headphones, and they are impressive. They pack great noise cancellation and expansive sound, skilfully presenting any music you care to mention. The black set is down to AU$359, while the brown model is a little more expensive at AU$369.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds | AU$399.95 AU$317 on Amazon (save AU$82.95)

Bose has applied its expertise in noise cancellation to these true wireless earbuds. Sound quality is rich and clear, though a little less bassy in comparison to Sony's WF-1000XM3 earbuds. Our review found them incredibly comfortable to wear too. Now down to AU$317 in black and white when you buy from Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus | AU$299 AU$139.75 on Amazon (save AU$159.25)

The Buds Plus come with an 11-hour battery life, support for iOS users and a dual-driver design that results in better sound quality compared to the original Galaxy Buds. The earbuds don’t have noise cancellation tech, which could be a dealbreaker for some, but what the Buds Plus offer instead is a price point that’s easy on the wallet. Available for just AU$139.75 in black.

Bose Frames Rondo/Alto | AU$299 AU$199 on Amazon (save AU$100)

With the launch of the newer Bose Frames, the price of the original audio sunglasses has been dropping. Amazon has been consistently listing them for around the AU$230 mark for a little while now, but both the Rondo and Alto styles are now down to just AU$199. These music-making sunglasses have a battery life of three hours, and personal sound that most people around you can't hear.

Cameras

Nikon Z50 twin lens kit + ML-L7 remote | AU$2,092.18 AU$1,799 on Amazon (save AU$293.18)

The Z50 is another mirrorless marvel from Nikon. It's an entry-level APS-C format mirrorless camera, but it can be quite an expensive model. Amazon has knocked down the price of this snapper – which also comes with two lenses and a remote – making it a little more affordable at AU$1,799.

Nikon Z6 + MB-N10 battery grip + EN-EL15b battery + 64GB XQD card | AU$2,999 AU$2,699 on Amazon (save AU$300)

For the body alone, the Z6 retails for a huge AU$2,599. Add an extra battery, the grip and an XQD card, and that cost does go up to almost three grand. So while this discount may not seem like much, it's not a bad deal if you want all the bells and whistles.

You can expect advanced data including running dynamics, heat- and altitude-adjusted VO2 max, recovery advisor and even surf tracking. Snag it from Amazon.

Suunto 9 | AU$699 AU$558.40 on Amazon (save AU$140.60)

Samsung 75-inch Q60A QLED TV | AU$2,495 AU$1,887 at Appliances Online eBay (save AU$608)

The Q60A is the cheapest QLED from Samsung’s 2021 range. It ticks the important boxes with 4K resolution and HDR support, alongside HDR10+. It’s an edge-lit set, which keeps it slim but ultimately means the brightness isn’t as consistent across the screen as with more premium sets. If that’s not a dealbreaker for you, consider nabbing this discount from eBay with the code PLUSCC1 – making it a few hundred dollars cheaper than most other Aussie retailers.

[EBAY PLUS EXCLUSIVE]

LG OLED55BX 55-inch OLED TV | AU$2,795 AU$1,895 at The Good Guys eBay (save AU$900)

LG's clearing out its 2020-model OLED tellies, which means you can find this 55-inch BX model widely discounted – although this AU$1,895 price from The Good Guys eBay store is the lowest we've seen anywhere. DJI Tello | AU$169 AU$119 on DJI eBay (save AU$50)

The DJI Tello – also known as the Ryze Tello – is a choice drone for beginners. It’s compact and lightweight, and our review found the flight controls to be nice and responsive. We found it lacked stability in the wind though, with even the slightest gust sweeping it away. It can take 5MP stills and 720p HD video, so while recording quality isn’t great, it should satisfy those who just want the basics. Use the code PLUSDRONE to save AU$50.

Ecovacs Deebot N79t | AU$279 AU$199 on Ecovacs' eBay (save AU$80)

Looking for a robot vacuum cleaner that's capable of some general cleaning, but won't cost you an arm and a leg? Ecovacs Robotics' Deebot N97t is one of the most affordable bots on the market today, and it comes with Alexa and Google Assistant support, so you can control it with some simple voice commands. It was only a month back that Canon announced that the EOS R3 was in development and it seems like the camera could launch soon.

Camera retailers around the world have started listing the upcoming pro-level full-frame mirrorless camera on their websites – including B&H Photo in the US and Georges Cameras in Australia.

While none of them actually mention a price on their sites, a Google Search shows a price tag of $6,000 listed under US retailer Adorama.

Canon EOS R3 listing

These placeholder listings may indicate that the Canon EOS R3 could be launching soon. We were expecting it to arrive in time for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo that's scheduled to start on Friday, July 23 (provided all goes well on the pandemic front), but we may not need to wait until next month for the official launch announcement.

We've already had product images leak on Twitter thanks to prolific and oft-reliable camera leaker Nokishita, as well as plenty of whispers on the wind on how much the body will cost.

Reports have suggested that Canon plans to undercut the competition and price the EOS R3 lower than what the EOS 1-D X Mark III and the Sony Alpha A1 costs right now – at launch, rumors suggest the EOS R3 will carry a price tag of $5,999 (about £4,215 / AU$7,725). This is seemingly confirmed by the $6,000 price that's displayed on Google Search results as seen on the screenshot above.

To put that price into perspective, the 1-D X Mark III had a launch price of $6,499 / £6,499 / AU$9,999 in 2020, while the Sony A1 arrived earlier in 2021 for $6,500 / £6,499 / AU$10,499 body only.

That, as Canon explained, would put the EOS R3 between the Canon EOS R5 (priced at $3,899 / £4,199 / AU$6,899) and the 1-D X Mark III – not the 'flagship' we thought it was supposed to be.

Analysis: high-end specs for a better price

Given what we already know about the EOS R3's specs and features, it's definitely shaping up to be a pro sports shooter. But if the EOS R3 is coming in cheaper than the Sony A1, could it be missing out on some features that the Sony boasts of? It could come in the form of lower sensor resolution, which would make sense if Canon is prioritizing speed (it's rumored to be able to shoot bursts of 30fps like the A1).

Looking at the leaked images, especially the one of the rear control layout, it seems the R3 is identical to the 1-D X Mark III – the new Smart Controller included. That indicates the camera is designed for the pros, and coming in cheaper than the 1-D X Mark III will allow budding professionals to reach for the Canon R system, especially now that there are some excellent telephoto optics in the RF arsenal.

Sadly that also indicates that Canon is likely not going to be looking at making any more pro DSLRs and is hoping the existing 1-series users will switch to its mirrorless system.

Another factor that could help Canon price the R3 lower is weather sealing. While it will have some degree of weather sealing, the memory card slot lacks the twisting lock that's available in the 1-series DSLRs. It also lacks the smaller LCD display that shows the shooting settings on the 1-D X.

A closer look at the rear of the R3 also indicates that it's coming with a fully articulating display, which has never been used in the DSLR version. This provides versatility to different types of photographers, which means Canon is not just targeting news and sports photographers, but potentially making this type of camera more mainstream.

All this is still conjecture though. We still have no idea when Canon will officially launch the EOS R3 and what the final feature list will look like. But a camera priced competitively and coming with some high-end specs is definitely looking like a good tactic from Canon.

AMD has unveiled laptop versions of its Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards, which aim to take on Nvidia’s mobile RTX 30-series GPUs.

The lineup is headed by the AMD Radeon RX 6800M, which sees AMD making a long-awaited return to high-end mobile gaming. The graphics card is based on a Navi 22 GPU with 40 CUs - putting it on par with the full-fat AMD Radeon RX 6800.

AMD claims the mobile GPU, which also features 12GB GDDR6 memory and a 145W TGP, will render on average 120 frames per second, and is promising major performance gains over a 2019 gaming laptop packing an Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics card. The Radeon RX 6800M will deliver a 1.7x improvement in Resident Evil: Village, according to AMD, and a 1.4x boost in Cyberpunk 2077

More interestingly, AMD is also claiming its high-end mobile GPU will outperform the Nvidia RTX 3070 and, in some cases, the Nvidia RTX 3080. The AMD Radeon RX 6800M averaged 141 fps in Resident Evil Village compared to 132 and 137 fps, respectively, and managed to beat out both of Nvidia’s mobile GPUs in Borderlands 3 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

AMD is claiming even more impressive gains when it comes to gaming on battery, suggesting the AMD Radeon 6800M will offer 1.4x the performance of the RTX 3080 in both Resident Evil: Village and Dirt 5.

AMD has also unveiled two lesser-powered mobile GPUs - the AMD Radeon RX 6700M and Radeon RX 6800M. The former, which packs 36CUs, 10GB GDDR6 memory and a TGP of up to 135W, promises up to 100fps gaming at 1440p, while the latter features takes aim at the Nvidia’s mobile RTX 3060 with its 26CUs, 8GB memory and TGP of up to 100W.

According to AMD, the Radeon RX 6800M will deliver impressive gains over the Nvidia RTX 3060 in a number of 1080p games including Borderlands 3 and Dirt 5. However, according to AMD’s own benchmarks, it failed to match the Ampere GPU in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or Cyberpunk 2077.

AMD says its new GPUs, which it’s touting as the fastest “AMD Radeon Graphics for laptops” are available starting now - the Radeon RX 6800M and RX 6600M are shipping starting today, with the RX 6700M set to follow soon.

The first laptops to pack AMD’s new graphics have also started shipping. The all-AMD ROG Strix G15, which pairs an AMD Radeon RX 6800M mobile GPU with a Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, is available today.

Latest Tech News

After around a year of teasing that it's coming, AMD has finally confirmed that its FidelityFX Super Resolution tech is coming on June 22.

AMD made the announcement as part of its Computex 2021 keynote, and it looks to deliver a similar performance boost to Nvidia's DLSS (deep learning super sampling) technology. However, unlike Nvidia's upscaling tech, FidelityFX Super Resolution will work on any recent graphics card, as AMD has demonstrated the tech working on an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 in GodFall.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, based on Team Red's own claims, should provide a up to a whopping 2x performance jump on AMD graphics cards using the Quality mode of Super Resolution, and up to a 2x performance boost in its Performance mode. These numbers come from GodFall at 4K with ray tracing on an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, so it's not clear if these numbers will change at all on other graphics cards.

AMD does share some brief information about the technology working with its competitor's graphics cards, but not the same breakdown we see for the 6800 XT. Also in Godfall, but at 1440p, AMD claims that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 can go from 27 fps to 38 fps at 1440p, using the Epic Preset and FidelityFX Super Resolution with its Quality mode. That's not the same 2x performance jump that AMD's own card boasts, but that's still a 41% performance jump.

We'll have to see for ourselves how this technology fares once we can get our hands on it for some more in-depth testing on June 22. But for right now, just based on AMD's own claims, this technology is looking extremely promising.

Latest Tech News

Last month saw Covid-19 cases zoom in India, and because of which production of smartphones at Apple assemblers like Foxconn and Samsung's own unit in Uttar Pradesh were hit.

And just as these companies were scurrying to make alternate arrangements to keep up with their shipment targets, which included ramping up their output in Vietnam --- their main production base now --- things have taken another turn for worse. Or so it seems.

Now, there is an uptick in the number of Covid-19 cases in Vietnam, and the local government is issuing tough guidelines on commuting in places like Bac Ninh Province, which as it happens houses Samsung factories. It must be noted here that Samsung units are also suppliers for Apple.

Many factories have split its workforce over two shifts or operating  below capacity to allow for easier social distancing and employee management.

Tech supply chain units face uncertainty

But as lockdown measures are set to kick in, supply chain industries of tech industries in Vietnam fear missing production targets. This development, of course, puts huge pressure on Apple and Samsung, and raises questions whether they can meet their shipment numbers this year.

If Samsung and Apple are unable to stick to their targets, it can have a cascading effect on the entire industry, analysts say.

Foxconn, Luxshare, which are well known names as assemblers, also have units in Vietnam. And aside from Samsung and Apple, Chinese smartphone companies like Xiaomi, Vivo, Huawei and Oppo also source electronic parts from factories here.

The Vietnamese government, understanding the importance of keeping running these factories, has suggested to the companies to try and provide ad hoc accommodation to their workers at their site or nearby location. The on-site sleeping arrangements for workers can help operations to continue while containing the virus.

But these companies are finding it tough to find such locations or make such arrangements in the numbers as needed. "It is not easy to immediately secure temporary shelters for tens of thousands of people, including local partners, so there are concerns that operations and supply may be disrupted," the local media reported.

LG also faces the heat

It is not just Apple or Samsung. LG, which is operating production lines for home appliances, mobile devices, and auto parts in Hai Phong, is also finding the going tough.

Although the situation is not as urgent as in Bac Ninh Province, things are not all that hunky-dory at Ho Chi Minh city, too. It is here where Samsung produces TVs and home appliances. The company is closely monitoring the provincial government's guidelines while operating its factories normally.

Samsung and suppliers to Apple have also been asked by the Vietnam government to secure Covid-19 vaccines for their workers at the factories.

But if the situation persists, Vietnam could lose the manufacturing gains it has made amid the US-China trade war.
