Ring’s latest security camera, the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro, has a new-look compared to its predecessor, the Ring Floodlight Cam, and has also comes with some new handy features that aims to reduce unwanted motions alerts, as the brand continues its bid to become the name on everyone’s lips when it comes home security cameras.

As before the security camera is capable of detecting motion up to 30ft away from the camera and triggering the floodlights to illuminate, hopefully scaring away any intruders. However, now with the Ring Floodlight Wired Pro, a built-in radar will ensure you’re only alerted about motion when the activity happens past a specified threshold (3D Motion).

This means you’ll get less unwanted alerts about motion caused by things such as birds, the wind or even a passer-by on the pavement. So is this the key feature that makes the Floodlight Wired Pro the best home security camera?

The 3D Motion feature is already available on the recently launched Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, but this is the first time it’s been available on an outdoor security camera.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? A new wired outdoor security camera with motion-activated floodlights
  • How much will it cost: $249 / £219 / AU$379
  • When will it be out? In the coming months

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro price and release date

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro costs $249 / £219 / AU$379, which is cheaper than its predecessor in some territories. The Ring Floodlight Cam was priced at $249 / £249.99 / AU$399 when it launched. However Ring has now reduced the price of the Ring Floodlight Cam to $199.99 / £179/ AU$299

Can't wait for the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro to arrive? Then check out the best prices for other Ring security cameras below:

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro will go on sale in the US, UK and Australia in the coming months. We’ll update this article when we have more detailed information.

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro design

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro has given a stylish redesign, compared to its predecessor. Gone are the circular floodlights with a ridged casing, in favor of oval-shaped LEDS capable of 1,000 lumens each (this is almost three times the brightness of the average side lamp) encased in a smooth plastic exterior.

The body of the floodlight has also been made more compact, but it still comes in both black and white. Ring says the floodlights are adjustable but hasn’t gone into further detail.

We hope that adjustable means the brightness of the floodlights can be adjusted in the app, just like the rival Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight camera

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro is mains powered, although Ring says “the installation must be done according to local electrical regulations” so it’s worth considering whether you can reach this standard if installing it yourself.

The camera has a 140-degree field of view and records Full HD footage during the day, and - if you have the floodlights set to illuminate when motion is detected - at night too.

On top of this, it also boasts a microphone array, rather than one single microphone, which Ring says provides clear, crisp audio when using the two-way talk feature to converse with anyone in the camera’s field of view.

It also comes with a 110db (at a 10cm distance) siren, which is as loud as listening to a live rock concert, that can be manually or automatically triggered.

Finally, the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, rather than just 2.4GHz.

Having two different Wi-Fi frequencies ensures the security camera can create a stable connection with a variety of routers, which should put an end to connection issues that have plagued some users, in particular those with slower broadband.

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro features

The main upgrade in the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro is the addition of a built-in radar. As we’ve mentioned already this radar enables 3D Motion and Bird's Eye view - two handy features designed to reduce unwanted activity alerts and provide a better understanding of what triggered the activity alert.

3D Motion allows you to set a specific threshold, and the camera will only alert you and start recording when the radar senses that a person or object has passed the threshold.

Meanwhile, the ‘Bird’s Eye View’ feature uses the radar to plot the exact path the object or person took on an aerial map, giving you a clear understanding of why the activity alert was triggered.

On top of this, the security camera has also advanced pre-roll feature, which stores four seconds of color video captured before motion detection was activated.

Also found on the Ring Video Doorbell 4 and the Ring Video Doorbell Wired, it’s worth noting pre-roll video isn’t captured at the same quality as motion videos, with Ring stating it has ‘less than 1080p video capture’ but didn’t define the exact resolution.

However, you will need to subscribe to Ring Protect (from £2.50 / $3 / AU$4 per month) if you want to access these handy new features, as well review footage from the camera for up to 30 days after it was recorded.

The most hotly anticipated - grudgingly in many corners - episode of Saturday Night Live in years saw Elon Musk - the on-off-on-off richest person in the universe - take hosting duties.

The Tesla and SpaceX bigwig is perhaps not exactly famed for his crowd-pleasing sense of humor - a fact Musk wasn't afraid to make fun of in his opening monologue. There was of course plenty of dressing up to be done, too, with the billionaire donning the guise of a doctor, financial expert, cowboy and, yes...Wario!

While Musk was undoubtedly the main attraction here, SNL made time to mark Mother's Day with performances from Miley Cyrus and an appearance from Maye Musk, Elon's mom.

Some jokes landed, some didn't (I mean, this is Saturday Night Live we're talking about) but it all amounted to unmissable TV. You can catch up with Elon Musk's guest spot online now and we have details of how to stream SNL from anywhere – just read on to find out how.

The Motorola Edge 2 is the anticipated successor to 2020's Motorola Edge series, which consisted of that phone and the Edge Plus. They were completely new devices back then, and their launch took us by surprise, but now we're expecting the next generation.

Named after the dramatically curved screen edges, the Motorola Edge phones showed that Motorola still knows how to make mid-range and premium devices, despite most of the company's output being budget devices.

We gave both Motorola Edge phones good scores, but there are still things the Edge 2 phone (or phones, if there's a Plus again) could do better. We've listed them below, so you can see if you agree.

To be clear, this isn't the Motorola Edge S, which was rumored near the beginning of the year. That ended up being the phone we know as the Moto G100 - in China, it got launched as the Edge S, for some reason. While that device could be considered an Edge Lite, it's not quite the Edge 2 we're looking forward to.

When we start hearing Motorola Edge 2 leaks and rumors, we'll start collecting them below, so you know everything to expect.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? The next generation of Moto Edge phone
  • When will it be out? Likely the middle of 2021
  • How much will it cost? Probably one mid-range and one premium device

Motorola Edge 2 price and availability

If the Motorola Edge 2 line has the same standard and Plus models of the original devices, there will probably be one mid-range and one premium device.

You can see the current price for the Motorola Edge and Edge Plus below, to see what we mean:

In terms of availability we'll probably see both devices launched in the US, UK and Australia, but maybe not at once - for the first Edge generation, Motorola staggered the release, with the UK getting the standard Edge first and the US getting the Plus, before all devices were launched in all regions.

It's possible we'll see the same pattern repeated for the Edge 2 line, though it's not guaranteed.

Leaks and rumors

We thought we'd heard quite a few Motorola Edge 2 leaks - until we found out those were actually about the Edge S, or Moto G100, so we actually don't know much.

For what it's worth, we probably know the Motorola Edge 2 series code-names: Sierra, Berlin, Berlin NA and Kyoto. This doesn't actually tell us anything about the phones, but apparently they're all slated to come in 2021.

Maybe, then, we'll see four Motorola Edge 2 phones instead of just two - there could be a Lite, and maybe a 4G version of one of the models too. That's just guesswork, though.

What we want to see

Motorola Edge Plus

Here's what we want to see in the Motorola Edge 2, including changes from the originals and ideas inspired by other Motorola phones, or competitors.

Let us buy the phone - and just the phone

Why wouldn't Motorola let us buy the Edge on its own? Well, we're referring to the Moto G100 - that budget smartphone was automatically bundled with a dock and cable for its Ready For service, and you couldn't buy it without them.

Ready For is a multi-tasking service so you can plug your phone into a computer monitor or TV for extra functions, and it's useful for some, but the extras bundled with the G100 caused its price to get bumped a little too far north.

If the Motorola Edge 2 phones support Ready For (which they likely will, since the Edge Plus does), we'd like to see the required peripherals available as optional extras to the phone, not mandatory additions.

Improved camera performance

Motorola phones have never been amazing for photography, and the Edge and Edge Plus are no exception, but recently the company's smartphones have been improving in the camera department.

If Motorola improved its photography software for the Edge 2, and perhaps bumped up the resolution on the telephoto cameras too, there would be a marked improvement in the overall smartphone experience.

Motorola Edge

Even more curved-edge functions

The Motorola Edge had a curved screen, but that's not the only thing it did to live up to that 'Edge' name - there were loads of useful functions with the phone that made the most of this tapered display.

You could swipe down on the curved display edge to bring up a list of your notifications, which made the tall, thin phone easier to navigate; when playing a game, you could also tap on certain portions of the curve which acted like a trigger that you could map out.

These were great to use, but the overall list of extra curve functions was limited. Hopefully Motorola has had some time to think of new ones, so the Edge 2 can have even more ways to utilize its design.

A better fingerprint scanner

Motorola Edge Plus

Motorola Edge Plus (Image credit: Future)

Easy-to-use in-screen fingerprint scanners are something a surprising number of smartphone manufacturers struggle with, and the Motorola Edge was an example of a sensor that was temperamental and hard to use.

We'd like to see the Motorola Edge 2 series come with better fingerprint scanners - perhaps ones that are larger, so easier to use ideally, or maybe ones that use different technology that's more accurate to scan.

More affordable Plus model

We'd like to see the Motorola Edge Plus 2, or Edge 2 Plus (whatever it ends up being called), priced competitively.

While the Edge Plus had lots of advantages over its non-Plus sibling, it also had a much higher launch price, that made it hard to recommend to people given the standard Edge was much better value.

Perhaps if the Edge Plus' successor had a more competitive price, possibly in line with the Samsung Galaxy S21 or Xiaomi Mi 11, it'd be a great rival to those flagship phones.

The next Xbox Series X restock date could be tonight, Sunday, May 9, according to Xbox restock tracker Matt Swider, who will send you alerts when it's back in stock – if you follow his Twitter account and turn on notifications. Why Sunday? We've seen the official Microsoft Xbox store restock the Xbox Series X two weeks in a row at this exact time on Sunday night into Monday morning: at 12am EDT / 9pm PDT.

So, on Sunday night, right before you go to sleep for the new workweek, if Microsoft goes three-for-three with its in-stock dates, you may see Matt send an Xbox Series X restock Twitter alert. He's also tracking the Microsoft console at 11 additional stores around the US, including Target, Walmart, GameStop and Best Buy.

Click on this alert to follow Matt Swider's account. It's an example of the second wave of the Xbox Series X restock notification sent last Sunday night / Monday morning. Look for that tonight.

How to buy the Xbox Series X from Microsoft tonight

When will Microsoft restock the Xbox Series X? We're going to suggest being by your phone or computer tonight, Sunday, May 9, at 11:59pm EDT / 8:59pm PDT. While we think it'll actually happen at midnight, since that's technically Monday, we want to be as clear in our advice as possible and avoid any confusion around when you'll be able to buy the Xbox Series X. It's Sunday night before you go to sleep for Monday.

What to do: You should keep trying to buy it for at least 30 minutes from the Microsoft store – with a lot of refreshing even if it says out of stock. Why? Thousands of people will be trying to make the purchase of the Microsoft console, and many will either fail to add their credit card details properly or bail on buying it (a lot of people just like to see if they can buy it). After a few minutes (roughly 15 minutes), that inventory will kick back into the Microsoft store system and be available to buy again. That's our best tip: don't give up on trying to buy the Xbox Series X.

What not to do: Most people see the initial Xbox Series X restock Twitter alert from Matt Swider at midnight, and they immediately go to the Xbox website to buy it only to see the add-to-cart button say 'Out of stock'. Frustrated, they reply to Matt with a message like 'Out of stock' or 'It's gone'. However, what they should be doing is sticking to the Microsoft website and constantly refreshing the page.

Other Xbox Series X restock alerts

Matt has been sending Xbox Series X restock alerts for all retailers in the US. We think that in addition to the Microsoft restock on May 9, we may see Walmart Thursday, May 13 at 2:30pm, although that's not confirmed just yet (we usually know from our Walmart restock sources at 12pm EDT on Thursdays).

There's also a chance that an Xbox Series X Best Buy restock for this week, while Target is always a possibility. The good news there is we often know if there's a Target Xbox Series X restock ahead of time.

Xbox Series X restock matt swider

How sure is the Xbox Series X restock today?

We'd give it a 75% chance of happening simply because Microsoft has launched new Xbox Series X stock at this time two weeks in a row. Retailers tend to follow patterns – unless, of course, they don't have inventory. That's where the 25% comes into play.

The one thing that makes us wary is that there was another Xbox Series X restock on Thursday, May 6 from Microsoft, right after the Walmart and Best Buy surprise restocks.

Granted, this was a smaller mid-week Xbox restock, but the Series X was available to purchase, according to a lot of Matt Swider's followers. So the question remains: does Microsoft have enough inventory of the new Xbox for a Sunday restock? We await that answer in a few hours.
