Samsung’s next-generation Odyssey G9 gaming monitor could be the first to boast VESA DisplayHDR 2000 certification, according to a recent leak.

Samsung first introduced the Odyssey G9 in June 2020, and recently confirmed that it’s gearing up to release a new model for 2021 that will arrive equipped a Quantum Mini LED display - similar to the tech expected to feature on the Apple's next-gen iPad Pro.

While Samsung didn’t tell us much else about its next-generation curved gaming monitor, a listing on Chinese website Taobao reveals that it could be the first to boast VESA DisplayHDR 2000 certification - which would make it the brightest monitor on the market.

Although the VESA certification has yet to be officially confirmed, it’s expected that this would increase the display’s brightness to an eye-popping 2,000 nits - double the 1,000 nits of brightness offered by the 2020 model. This could mean that viewing HDR content could be greatly improved on the rumored 2021 model.

This technology will also increase the display’s contrast ratio to 4000:1, according to the listing, and the 2021 Odyssey G9 will also feature MiniLED backlighting with 2048 local dimming zones.

Beyond the upgraded screen technology, the listing suggests that the rest of the monitor’s specs will remain unchanged. The Samsung Odyssey G9 will feature the same  49-inch VA panel with 5120×1440 resolution, 1000R curvature same 240Hz refresh rate as the last-gen model, and will allegedly retain the same 10-bit color depth and 95% DCI-P3 color coverage.

It will also support both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync Pro, according to the Taobao listing.

The website is listing the Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 gaming monitor with a shipping date of June and a price of 29,999 RMB (around $4,580). However, it’s very likely this is just as placeholder as the 2020 model costs $1,479.99.

Telstra discounted each iPhone by AU$100 last month, but now it’s back with an even better deal – the telco has cut AU$150 off the price of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.

It’s part of Telstra’s seven-day flash sale and, along with the AU$150 discount on the 12 and 12 mini, all other iPhones in the range are back to being AU$100 off. For those keen, the sale starts today, April 13, and finishes on Monday, April 19.

Unlike some telco deals, the offer is available to both new and existing Telstra customers, and can be redeemed whether you’d like to pair the iPhone with a Telstra plan, or purchase the device outright.

While AU$150 off may not seem like much, it drops the iPhone 12 down to what the 12 mini usually costs. The main difference between the two devices is size – the iPhone 12 is slightly bigger, with a display that stretches 6.1 inches, compared to the 12 mini’s 5.4-inch screen.

The iPhone 12’s larger body can also pack in a bigger battery, and while our reviews found both phones could last for a full day with normal use, the iPhone 12 has a little extra juice in the tank.

While we’d argue that AU$150 off the iPhone 12 and 12 mini are the better offers, there are much cheaper deals available if you move down to Apple’s older iPhones. You can now buy the iPhone 11 outright for AU$899, while the iPhone SE can be had for as little as AU$579.

Both these older handsets have officially dropped in price since they first launched, with Telstra’s sale making the iPhone 11 now AU$300 less than what it originally cost. The iPhone SE is now AU$170 less than its launch price, making Apple’s most affordable phone even cheaper.

As mentioned, Telstra’s offer applies to iPhones paired with a plan or bought outright. Telstra’s plans are more expensive when compared to Optus and Vodafone, though they do have the advantage of being on the widest available 5G network in Australia. If that’s not important to you though, you could be better served pairing a phone with a cheap SIM-only plan.

Medium format photography has, so far, been the realm of the professionals, with high resolution 100MP cameras costing more than just an arm and a leg, and being too large to go walkabout with.

That all changed when Fujifilm announced the GFX100S in February this year. Not only is it the smallest 100MP medium-format camera, it's also the most wallet-friendly to date.

At AU$9,499 for the body alone, the GFX100S isn't quite 'cheap' but, to put it into perspective, there's no other 102MP resolution camera on the market that carries a four-figure price tag. It's also no bigger than the average DSLR.

This combination of price and size has undeniably made medium format photography more accessible to the enthusiasts as well. But not everyone is familiar with medium format cameras.

To help new GFX100S owners come to grips with the ins and outs of medium format, Fujifilm is offering Aussies a free one-on-one introductory and training session when you purchase the GFX100S.

To be eligible for this offer, you will need to buy the camera between now and May 31, 2021 and register your interest on the Fujifilm website.

The session will be conducted by Fufjilm Australia's National Training Manager, Warwick Williams, who has been overseeing courses for the camera maker for about two decades. He's also part of Fujifilm's Worldwide Team that makes decisions on the manufacturer's camera productions.

The session will cover key aspects of the camera's features and functions, including a rundown of all the buttons on the control layout, the various focusing modes, Fujifilm's different Film Simulations (there are 19 now on the GFX100S), as well as the various drive modes.

Note that to be eligible for this free one-on-one session, you will need to have purchased the GFX100S from an authorised dealer. If you've bought the camera after February 25, or plan to buy it by May 31, you can head to the GFX100S Introductory Session page on the Fujifilm website to register.

India’s leading stock broker Upstox suffered a major breach that allowed hackers to steal contact information and KYC details of over 25 lakh users. These details were put upon the dark web for sale.

The company states that it received various emails that claimed access into their database which compromised user details like Name, Email, DOB, PAN, Bank Details, KYC (Passport, PAN, Cancelled Cheque, soft copies of users’ signature etc.) from a data warehouse located at a third-party facility.

The company has alerted its users about the incident and has stated that there was no financial impact of the breach and the shares and funds etc. of its customers are safe and intact. Upstox has also announced that following the breach, the company has enhanced the security system on its servers.

In an official statement, Upstox’s CEO not only assured users about the safety of users’ accounts but has also stated that the company is further “amping up our industry-class bug bounty program to encourage ethical hackers to stress test our systems and protocols and help us identify any vulnerabilities from time to time.”

This leak adds to the recent hacking incidents on various domestic and international companies including Facebook, LinkedIn, Clubhouse, Mobikwik etc.

Talking about the recent Facebook leak that compromised the personally identifiable data of over 553 million users across the globe. The interlopers were able to scrape details like Name, account ID, e-mail ID and phone numbers associated with the account.

Interestingly, Facebook is in no mood to alert users about the data breach and wants the users to do the research on their own. However, in case you want to know if your data was compromised, you can follow the process listed here or here. That said, even though Facebook says that the data was scraped in 2019 before the required fix was introduced, the leaked data included the personal details of Facebook’s senior executives including Mark Zuckerberg.

What should users do to secure their Upstox account ?

According to researchers, the breach could’ve been a result of improper security parameters implemented on their data hosting servers. The information compromised as a result of these attacks can be used to run phishing attacks, account takeovers, KYC frauds, impersonation etc.

Hence, the researchers suggest that users should remain watchful of their account and should change their passwords immediately. Users should also keep an eye on the OTPs that they receive on their phones. These OTPs should not be shared with anyone and the service provider should be informed immediately if you receive OTPs when you’ve not requested any.

PUBG Mobile India has been eluding us ever since its existence was announced last November. While we await further official confirmation, a new development suggests that the company is getting ready for some big moves.

In September 2020, PUBG Mobile one of the 118 apps banned by the Indian government owing to mishandling of user data in an unauthorized manner. As a response, Karfton decoupled with China-based Tencent for its Indian operations and announced that it will create an entirely new game that will comply with the local regulations — called PUBG Mobile India. However, while the new version is supposedly ready, it is yet to gain the necessary approvals to go live.

In a turn of events that could indicate that PUBG Mobile India is a step closer to release, PUBG Corporation is now hiring in India for multiple roles across verticals. Posted on Linkedin recently, these include positions such as a product manager, product analyst, publisher, investment analyst, marketing manager and video editor.

The range of these openings suggests that PUBG Mobile India will not just be a forked version of the global game, but have some localisations and customizations from the get, along with separate events and partnerships for the community. All the roles are based in Bangalore, where PUBG India Pvt Ltd was incorporated in November.

A hiring spree of this nature does raise our hopes that PUBG Mobile India will be with us soon. It’s been six months since the initial announcement, but official updates have been few.

A few days ago, a couple of popular eSports players from the country also hinted that PUBG Mobile India could launch in two months' time. The timeline does match with other previous reports.

As always, take this development with a grain of salt and await official communication on the PUBG Mobile India launch, before jumping to conclusions.
