3. Porto

4. Shopkeeper

5. WoonderShop

Read on for our detailed analysis of each theme

What better way to buy stuff than from the comfort of your own sofa… or bed? Online shopping has revolutionised the way we consume, but why let Amazon grab all the profits? If you’ve got an online business idea, now’s probably the best time to get started, and if you’re using the popular website builder and web hosting solution that is WordPress, then we’ve gathered round five impressive e-commerce themes to help you hit the ground running.

Astra (Image credit: Astra)

1. Astra

A very popular theme with an impressible number of option to create your ideal store

Fast
Highly customizable
Great e-commerce options

Astra is a very popular WordPress theme. They recently celebrated their one millionth active install, which is no small feat. It’s designed to work with various page builders such as Elementor, Beaver Builder, Brizy and Gutenberg, and comes as a free and paid for version, but if you’re looking for e-commerce features, you have to go pro.

Some of the sales-friendly features unique to the pro version include Infinite Scroll so your products load dynamically as the visitor scrolls down the page, Off-Canvas Sidebar, an ideal place to incorporate filters and widgets to make finding what your customer is looking for quicker and easier, and multiple Checkout Options, to customise the layout to suit you and your users’ needs, such as two-step checkout, or distraction-free checkout for instance.

The customisation options are quite impressive, all without having to delve into code; you can alter the layout, the typography, even turn off the title page and sidebar if you want to. And best of all, Astra is advertised as a fast responsive theme, meaning it’ll load fast to keep your visitors on your site.

Astra offers three different plans, starting with Astra Pro, currently for $47 per year (or $249 for a one-time fee), right up to $249 a year for Agency Bundle (or $699 for a one-time fee).

Flatsome (Image credit: Flatsome)

2. Flatsome

Flatsome will help you create elegant e-commerce sites with little effort and no coding experience

Easy to customize
Loads of options

The main focus of Flatsome is on e-commerce and this theme is designed to not only be easy to use for your visitors, but also to create and maintain for yourself. Alterations are done via its UX Builder which offers you a live preview as you make your changes. You can for instance, mix and match headers, pages, colours and fonts using the Theme Option Panel. It’s extremely versatile, allowing you to change any aspect of the page to suit your requirements with drag and drop ease. Such power makes it easy to alter the numerous available templates to create a store that is unique and ideally suited to the products you have on offer. As with Astra above, it boasts fast loading times for an enhanced visitor experience.

Getting Flatsome will cost you $59 which includes future updates, and 6 months of support. You can extend that support by a further 6 months for an additional $17.63.

Porto (Image credit: Porto)

3. Porto

A simple theme with enough customisation options to help your store stand out

Good value
Responsive
SEO-ready

Porto is an e-commerce-specific theme, and comes with over 30 different layouts to help you configure your store to best showcase your products. Of course, if this doesn’t suit, you can always use the theme’s page builder straight from your WordPress Dashboard.

There’s a good variety of layouts on offer, along with sidebars, sliders and shop category pages. As you’d expect, it’s a fully responsive website so your visitors can purchase what they want from the comfort of their computer or portable device.

The price is very competitive: only $59 for a licence (as with Flatsome, you can purchase an additional 6 months of support for $17.63). However this price also includes two premium plugins, WP Bakery Page Builder, and Slider Revolution, which makes the deal even sweeter.

Shopkeeper (Image credit: Shopkeeper)

4. Shopkeeper

A good theme to help novices and pro alike to set up an online store and start selling products

Easy customizability
Good looking theme

Shopkeeper is a very well received e-commerce-focused WordPress theme. It comes with good looking templates which you can use straight away as is, or as the starting point for a more customised experience. Like all the others on this list, there’s no need for coding experience to create an online store - shopkeeper takes care of it all for you in the background. There are many options to your page’s layout. You could for instance have an on-screen or off-screen sidebar, organise your products by categories, choose how many items to display per row or page, allow for variables, digital downloads, affiliate links, set items on sale, or list them as out of stock. Everything you’d expect, really.

As it’s a WordPress theme, you can also populate your site with bios and contact information, and Shopkeeper even comes with three different blog layouts, should you wish to entice your customers with some juicy tidbits of information.

As with Flatsome and Porto above, Shopkeeper will cost you $59, which includes all future updates and six months of support (with a $17.63 add-on to keep your access to support for an additional six months).

WoonderShop (Image credit: Proteus Themes)

5. WoonderShop

A very mobile-friendly theme designed to get you selling, no matter which device your site is viewed on

Good features
Nice UI

Although WooderShop advertises itself as a “mobile-first” e-commerce theme, that doesn’t mean to say its experience on a desktop isn’t on par. On the contrary, accessing a store built with this theme works great on any platform. Although it does make sense to focus on mobile, since this is the way more and more people shop these days, and making the experience there feel flawless is crucial to a successful business plan.

The loading speed benchmarks are impressive, and being SEO ready will help you stay competitive. We really liked the sandbox feature on offer to let you try the theme for free for seven days (no credit card required). This is a great way to explore the product and determine if the features it offers are right for you and your business. WoodersShop is full of nice little features, like a cross-selling widget to encourage your customers to get additional related products, a real-time filtering option, an signup form which can be linked to an email provider such as MailChimp, and a translation-ready interface to boot.

You can buy WooderShop for $79 which allows you to install it on a single site and includes six months of support. Alternatively, there’s also the option to join the “Proteus Club” for $149 per year, which grants you access to all of Proteus’ 21 themes, which you can apply to an unlimited number of website, and also gain unlimited support.

A new Huawei P50 Pro leak shows renders of a phone with, quite simply, some of the biggest camera lenses we’ve ever seen on a phone. They’re huge. Grotesque. We can’t wait to try them out.

Assuming they’re real, of course – leaks aren’t always accurate, and there’s less of a guarantee that renders represent the final design of a phone. But this leak comes courtesy of the reliable Steve Hemmerstoffer aka @OnLeaks, who revealed the new design on Voice with a suitably appropriate warning for readers to brace themselves for the first images of the phone:

Hemmerstoffer didn’t have any camera details to go with the images, so we don’t know exactly how truly massive each of these two lenses are expected to be – but even eyeballing them shows that both of them lined up in a camera block take up a third of the phone’s length.

Even more leak details

Hemmerstoffer’s leak did include other alleged info about the P50 Pro: it’ll have a 6.6-inch display with slightly curved waterfall edges, an in-screen fingerprint sensor and a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera (as opposed to the two-lens oval hole in the Huawei P40 range).

Per the leak, the top and bottom of the P50 Pro are flat, much like the P30, and the supposed dimensions (159 x 73 x 8.6mm) are barely longer and wider than the P40, though expect that camera bump to thicken the phone to 10.3mm. Expect a rear glass panel and metal frame with speakers at the top and bottom.

This leak certainly blows the doors open on the P50 Pro; what few rumors we’ve heard focused on whether the phone will be the first to come with Huawei’s Android-rivaling operating system Harmony pre-installed from the factory floor. But now we’re wondering what those lenses could accomplish – even phones of yesteryear we remember having big cameras, like the Nokia Lumia 1020, actually just had large camera blocks. We’re eager to see more about what might be the largest lenses ever to grace a smartphone.

Adobe has announced that its photo editing software Photoshop can now run natively on M1 Macs and take full advantage of the performance improvements built into Apple's new architecture.

Late last year Apple unveiled its new Arm-based M1 chip alongside a new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Unfortunately for creatives that wanted to use one of these devices as either a workstation or even a mobile workstation, many popular apps didn't support Apple's latest devices at launch.

Thankfully though, software developers have been hard at work adapting their applications to run on M1 chips. For instance, you can now run Windows 10 on an M1 Mac using Parallels' virtual machine software and you will soon be able to run Android apps too as BlueStacks is working on adding support for Arm-based chips.

While these two examples might not appeal to everyone, being able to run Photoshop on the latest Macs will likely be welcomed by creative professionals, web designers and others who rely on Creative Cloud to get their jobs done.

M1 chip support

According to a new blog post from Adobe, the company's internal tests on M1 Macs show a wide range of features in Photoshop running an average of 1.5 times faster when compared to similarly configured previous generation systems.

The tests conducted by the company covered a broad scope of activities in Photoshop including opening and saving files, running filters and even compute-heavy operations like Content-Aware Fill and Select Subject. Additionally, its early benchmarking shows that some operations are substantially faster with Apple's new chip.

However, there are still a few features that Adobe hasn't finished porting to run on the new M1 chip including Invite to Edit Cloud Documents and most notably Preset Syncing. In the end, the company decided to release Photoshop for M1 Macs without these features due to the fact that performance gains across the rest of the application were so great.

Adobe plans to continue working together with Apple to further optimize the performance of Photoshop and the rest of its software over time.

There are plenty of things that owners of online and e-commerce companies need to do, but that can get in the way of actually doing business. Chief among those is accounting – yes, it’s incredibly important, but it’s also time-consuming, and often confusing. That, however, is where Synder comes in – as a way to automate your accounting, and leave you with more time to grow your business.

Synder is specifically aimed at joining all your payment sources and accounting platforms into one, easy to navigate interface -- so you can easily automate what would otherwise be time-consuming processes to work in the background and without your interference. It supports all kinds of platforms too, from Amazon, PayPal, Shopify, Stripe, Square, Shopify, and PayPal, to QuickBooks and Xero.

In other words, if you want to simplify how you receive and process payments online, Synder is for you.

Synder

Synder is highly customizable, thanks to the variety of services that it works with, and it’s very simple to get set up with – but in case you’re having trouble, Synder offers free onboarding help with their tech support specialists.  Once you are set up, it offers a range of settings to help automate any workflow, even those that might be a bit unusual, so any business should be able to take advantage of the platform. Synder’s new Smart Rules feature takes all that to the next level -- by allowing you to set triggers for data and actions. With this feature you can easily set a trigger action to evoke an event. For example, an invoice being paid could trigger a thank you email being sent. And, those actions can be easily edited after the fact, and allow users to assign classes to things like lines in invoices and invoices in general in QuickBooks.

Along the way, if you need any help at all, you’ll get it – whether it be through live chat, on the phone, via email, or even by screenshare. And, before you even sign up, you can get a demo of the service to make sure it’s right for your needs.

There are plenty of advantages to simplifying how you process and manage payments online. The first is time-based -- as it ensures that you don’t have to spend hours going through your payments. Time saved is only compounded if you use several online payment platforms. Synder also helps a ton with reconciliation, considering the fact that every dollar is accounted for -- so you no longer have to spend hours chasing up missing information.

Ultimately, of course, it could also save you money. Not only could Synder help you cut down on your accounting costs, but it could also help ensure that your books are in top shape come tax time.

Synder is very reasonably priced, meaning that all e-commerce businesses should be able to take advantage of it. Small businesses will pay as little as $19.99 per month, or an average of $15.99 per month if you pay for the year up front. That’s pretty impressive.

Interested in trying out Synder for your business? Head to the Synder website to register to try it out for yourself, without having to enter a credit card for the free trial.

Samsung today announced its newest generation of midgrade consumer SSD --- the 980 NVMe SSD. It is a follow-up to the 970 Evo but without that 'Evo' suffix for branding purposes.

DRAM-less designs are generally taken to have slower speeds for fast access to data.

Samsung’s 980, however, is said to use Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, which links the drive directly to the host processor’s DRAM to overcome any performance drawbacks.

This technology, coupled with the company’s latest sixth-generation V-NAND as well as optimized controller and firmware, "enables the 980 to provide NVMe performance with six times the speed of SATA SSDs," Samsung said.

The 980 SSD offers sequential read and write speeds up to 3,500 and 3,000 megabytes per second, respectively.

980 SSD ideal for everyday users as well as gamers

“Through both hardware and software innovations, our new 980 SSD brings greater value without compromising the high-end NVMe performance,” said KyuYoung Lee, vice president of Memory Brand Product Biz team at Samsung Electronics.

“The 980 offers an excellent blend of speed, power efficiency and reliability, making it suitable for everyday PC users and gamers as well as content creators,” he added.

For users working with extremely large files or running graphics-heavy games, the new ‘Full Power Mode’ added to Samsung’s Magician 6.3 software allows the drive to continuously run at peak performance for uninterrupted work and play.

980 SSD is 56% more efficient than the previous version

Samsung claimed that its upgraded Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 solution also provides improved performance by allocating a much larger buffer storage area inside the drive.

The newest SSD boasts of improved power efficiency of up to 56% in comparison to the previous 970 EVO, the company said.

Samsung added users can enjoy stable and reliable performance even during prolonged use thanks to the 'Dynamic Thermal Guard' technology, nickel-coated controller and heat spreader label solutions.

The latest consumer SSD will be available in three models — 250GB, 500GB and 1TB — and will be launched in about 40 countries.
