You'll hear no arguments from us if you say Dyson has some of the best vacuum cleaners in the business, with the cordless handsticks leading the charge in both performance, quality and, well, price.

Dyson's handsticks don't come cheap but, if you wait for a sale, chances are very high you can score one of these good-looking cleaning machines for far less than their RRPs. Thankfully you don't need to wait for something like Black Friday to come round again to score a good discount, as there's AU$200 off a range of Dyson handsticks on the company's official eBay store right now.

If you're on a budget, don't ignore the Dyson V7 – it might have the least battery life and an old motor, but it will do just fine in a small apartment, even if there's wall-to-wall carpet. And it's now just AU$399 on Dyson's official eBay store.

Need a touch more battery life than the V7's 30 minutes? Then you can save AU$200 on the Dyson V8 Animal Extra and nab one for just AU$599. Another AU$100 more will get you the excellent Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead (if you're after more power and better battery life).

Step away from eBay and there's AU$200 off on the V10 Absolute+ on Dyson Australia's own website. At AU$899, this offers you best bang for your buck, with two cleaner heads and several tools shipping in the box.

Dyson V7 Cord-free Origin | AU$599 AU$399 on eBay (save AU$200)

For an affordable AU$399, you're getting up to 30 minutes of fade-free battery life, pretty decent suction power and a Combination Tool that ships in the box to help you get to those little places you need to. That's AU$200 off the RRP and available on both eBay as well on Dyson's own site for the same amount.

Dyson V8 Animal Extra | AU$799 AU$599 on eBay (save AU$200)

There are a couple of V8 models available in Australia but the Animal Extra offers good value as it ships with extra tools – five extra ones to be precise. Otherwise it's the same great 40-minute fade-free battery, plenty of suction and the same versatility that Dyson's handsticks offer across the board. While it's full price on the Dyson Australia website, it's AU$200 off on eBay.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead | AU$899 AU$699 on eBay (save AU$200)

This was the original V10 that launched in Australia in 2018. It's no longer available to purchase directly from the Dyson Australia website, but this powerful cleaning machine is formidable, getting a glowing review from us. There's up to 60 minutes of battery life here, far more suction power than the V7 or the V8, and three power modes to suit your needs. It's got a bigger bin than the aforementioned handsticks too. And at AU$699 a pop, it's a good buy.

Dyson V10 Absolute+ | AU$1,099 AU$899 at Dyson (save AU$200)

While the Dyson V11 is the ultimate cleaning machine, the V10 Absolute+ comes pretty darn close. The difference between this and the V10 Motorhead listed above is that the Absolute+ comes with two different cleaning heads – one that's perfect all-round while the other is just spectacular on hard floors – and a whopping seven different tools. So no matter where you need to clean, you can use the V10 Absolute+. At AU$899, this is great bang for your buck indeed.

While we've seen Dyson discount its range of vacuum cleaners often enough, it's very hard to find its hair-care products going for less on its own online storefront.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is one of the best you can get but it does cost an eye-watering AU$549. If, however, you're willing to settle for a refurbished model – and this is an official refurb from Dyson – then you can save a very decent AU$150 on the Supersonic while shopping on eBay.

Dyson Supersonic hair dryer | AU$549 AU$399 on eBay (save AU$150)

Been lusting after this beauty? If you're comfortable with buying an officially refurbished model, then you can save AU$150 and snap one up from Dyson's official eBay store – that's just AU$399 for one of the best hair dryers money can buy. There's even a one-year guarantee thrown in for a little peace of mind.

Carl Pei’s new hardware startup known as Nothing has been making headlines over the last few weeks. All Pei did during the first few weeks of revealing the brand was to announce funding by Google Ventures but there was little else.

Now, we are hearing reports that the company has acquired the rights to a defunct brand called Essential, which incidentally is owned by Andy Rubin, the creator of Android and founder of the said brand. A report published on 9to5Google claims the process started way back in November 2020 and was completed last month.

It may be recalled that Nothing did announce that it aims to start its journey by launching audio wearables and smart home devices and will probably launch a pair of earbuds as its first product.

What remains to be seen going forward is how the defunct Essential would provide the thrust to Nothing's plans. Of course, there is always an air of suspense around everything that Carl Pei does, a legacy related to his OnePlus roots.

We will have to wait and see whether this acquisition of nothing (given that the brand is defunct) is yet another of Pei's smart moves that usually leaves the industry in some wonderment.

Essential

Essential which only launched one smartphone but teased quite a few other products like it’s second smartphone PH-2, a smart home hub & speaker and a phone with a crazily narrow form factor before being abruptly shut down. During its brief lifetime, Essential also acquired and later sold Newton, the smart clutter-free mailbox.

Snap to the current, while Nothing now owns all the trademark and logos Essential, it is  it's not clear if the patents owned by Essential will get transferred as well.

Pei had earlier revealed that Nothing will launch its first smart products in the first half of this year and hence the Essential-acquisition can be merely seen as a shot in the arm allowing Nothing an access to the numerous patents relating to “Voice setup instructions” and “voice-enabled home setup” that Essential owns.

That said, now that Nothing has access to Essential it may also launch smartphones, in case it plans in future, and compete directly with the likes of OnePlus, the company Pei co-founded. After all, Essential was also known to offer affordable flagship phones running on near-stock Android experience.

Nothing is expected to make a formal announcement of this acquisition later today.

We're used to seeing massive price drops on expensive electronics during big sales like Prime Day and Black Friday, but it's altogether rarer to see whopper discounts outside of those periods.

However, it seems Christmas has come again (or early, if you wish) on Amazon, with the online marketplace heavily discounting two of Nikon's top mirrorless cameras. The Nikon Z6 II and the Nikon Z50 both sit proudly on our list of the best mirrorless cameras and you can currently pick up their single-lens kits for their lowest Amazon AU prices ever.

The Nikon Z6 II is the next-gen full-frame mirrorless marvel that introduces dual processors under the hood for a performance boost over its predecessor, while there's also some autofocus improvements available here that makes the Z6 II a much better snapper as compared to the Nikon Z6.

There's dual card slots – for XQD/CFexpress and the more affordable SD format – and 4K/60p video mode and a 24MP BSI sensor that's excellent in low light and high ISOs.

The offer on Amazon is for the camera body plus a Z-series standard zoom lens, and is the lowest price we've ever seen for this kit, with a very good 23% discount that brings the total price to just a smidge over the RRP of the body alone.

Nikon Z6 II + Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens | AU$4,599 AU$3,519.20 on Amazon (save AU$1,079.80)

Admittedly it's a minor upgrade from the original Z6 and slightly lags behind the new crop of competitors, but it's a formidable snapper nonetheless. It's currently one of our top picks (at number 3) for the best camera to buy in 2021 and we wouldn't hesitate recommending it if you're upgrading from an older model or from a DSLR.

While the Nikon Z6 II is a brilliant option, it may be out of budget for many users. And it might also be too much camera for some, especially those just starting out in photography. So if you're on a tighter budget or need a more beginner-friendly option, consider the Nikon Z50.

Unlike the Z6 II, this is an APS-C format snapper, meaning there's a smaller sensor under the hood. If you think that matters, then don't – we think very highly of the Z50, placing it at number 6 in our best cameras in 2021 list.

It's the perfect DSLR upgrade option, with a design similar to those heftier bodies, just in a lighter and more compact form factor. It produces excellent results and is a great vlogger camera too, with an excellent pancake 16-50mm lens shipping in the box.

This single-lens is now 31% off on Amazon – again, the lowest price we've come across – available now for just AU$1,178 and saving you AU$521 in the bargain.

Nikon Z50 + Nikkor DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR lens | AU$1,699 AU$1,178 on Amazon (save AU$521)

This is one of the most affordable mirrorless kits on the market, even at full price, but we always appreciate a good bargain. If you're getting a 4K camera that's capable of 11fps bursts and so much more for just a little over a grand, this is far more than just a 'good' bargain – it's an absolute steal!

You might want to get a wriggle on, though, if you'd like to snap up one of these mirrorless marvels for less – other kits were also discounted earlier this week but went out of stock real quick.

If you're looking for a low-cost prepaid mobile plan, there's a great new option in town. Catch Connect – the telco brought to you by online retailer Catch.com.au – is offering three new prepaid plans and they're some of the best value in the industry right now.

The telco previously offered a range of prepaid offerings, but the latest are by far the lowest prices we've seen on the budget end of the spectrum, bringing you 4GB of data for AU$9 or 18GB for just AU$15, both on 30-day recharges.

Both these new plans also come with unlimited standard national talk and text, all on the Optus 4G network.

For comparison, Boost Mobile is offering 3GB for AU$10, but the recharge is only for 7 days. Alternatively, a 30-day top-up with Woolworths Mobile will get you 1GB of data for AU$10.

Catch Connect | 4GB data | AU$9 per 30 days

For a very low montly cost, you can get unlimited national talk and text as well as 4GB of data to use on the Optus network. If you don't find the data cap to be enough, another AU$6 will bump you up to an 18GB recharge.

Total minimum cost is AU$9

Catch Connect | 20GB data | AU$29 per 90 days

If you're more of a set-and-forget type customer, it could be worth opting for one of Catch Connect's 90-day recharge options, meaning you won't have to top up for three months. This one nets you 20GB of data to use over that time, and only costs AU$29 each top-up.

Total minimum cost is AU$29
