Apple's big event is scheduled for October when the world can get to see its flagship iPhone 12 series. Now, leading up to this year's event, which would be a virtual one given the Covid-19 pandemic, come reports of the tech giant abandoning two of its existing models, the iPhone XR, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Not surprising, given that Apple had let go of the bulky iPhone XS and its bulkier big brother iPhone XS Max coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 11 series this time last year. However, there is a difference this time as both the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max were definitely more successful than Apple's 2018 offerings.
Reports of the move surfaced via the twitter handle iAppleTimes which claimed that not only would the iPhone XR and two of the iPhone 11 models disappear from the market, the iPhone 11 would also receive a significant $150 price cut one Apple gets through with the iPhone 12 launch event.
Given that the iPhone SE 2020 launched by Apple earlier this year is considerably more powerful than the iPhone XR, it makes sense to abandon the latter. Given that the model was assembled in India since last year, there could be some good price cuts coming our way in the country on any existing stock.
Sources at Apple India refused to confirm or deny the move, but told us that going forward Apple's vendor partners in India would be focusing on the iPhone 11 for now and may also end up getting a piece of the iPhone 12 pie by next year, for which manufacturers like FoxConn and Pegatron have brought in new investments.
Apple to discontinue iPhone XR and iPhone 11 Pro models after iPhone 12 launch.iPhone 11 at $549August 20, 2020
iPhone XR was a hit
Moreover, the iPhone XR had commanded user interest in India due to its sharper curves and sleeker looks, both of which are absent from the iPhone SE 2020, which appears to look like a refurbished iPhone 8 from the past. The question though is would Apple's India fans prefer the boxy iPhone SE or go with the iPhone 11 which could cost a shade lower than the device released earlier this year.
Of course, in case you are actually looking to upgrade an existing iPhone, we would suggest that you wait a month longer. Once Apple launches the iPhone 12, there is every likelihood of a substantial price cut not only on the iPhone 11 models, but also on the limited iPhone XR stocks that could be lying around.
The story around the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max looks rather straightforward in comparison. Because when the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max reaches the market, it would come enabled with 5G and though India is still far away from enabling the latest network, Apple believes it makes no sense having inferior competition.
Also, when the iPhone XR, which was the real hit from the 2018 launch, is all set to be laid to rest, why would the two other models that didn't bring in the big bucks upon launch fare any better?

If you think the NBN is too expensive, you’re not alone. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) thinks so too, and it’s now seeking feedback on NBN Co’s plan to address the affordability of its entry-level broadband services.
NBN Co’s plan follows extensive consultation with the ACCC, and looks to lower the wholesale price of the NBN, which will allow retailers to pass on cheaper plans to customers.
It also proposes more clarity about the pricing of its products, and a stronger commitment to its service standards, which will be encouraged through its rebate structure.
It’s not yet clear how a new pricing structure would benefit the end user, but the proposal includes changing the rebate from a one-off payment to a daily rate, which consumers will be eligible for when they face late connections and fault repairs.
It’s also proposed that the rebate for missed appointments by NBN technicians should increase from AU$25 to AU$75, and internet service providers (ISPs) will be required to pass the refund onto their customers.
If the proposed changes are approved by the ACCC, they’ll come into effect by the end of the year, giving more Australians access to affordable high-speed internet.
While consumers may think the problem of pricing lies with the ISP they've signed up with, the issue starts with NBN Co, who charge the providers a wholesale price. The proposal looks to lower that wholesale price which, in turn, will allow retailers to pass on cheaper plans to customers.
In regards to the reworked rebate structure, the ACCC’s Chair Rod Sims said it’s “designed to give NBN Co more incentives to lift its service standards to retailer service providers, which should, in turn, improve service to NBN consumers by reducing instances of missed appointments, delayed connections and unresolved faults”.
The consumer watchdog launched the inquiry following complaints that the NBN was unaffordable for some, and that problems with connections and unresolved fault repair were inconvenient and costly to current users.
With the NBN rollout almost complete, the consumer watchdog says it currently views NBN Co’s proposals as reasonable, but would like to hear from others. If the changes are approved, they will be included in the next Wholesale Broadband Agreement, which will begin in December 2020, and be valid for two years.
These are today's cheapest NBN plans:

Back in March, we reported on an alleged Chromecast Ultra successor from Google that might finally offer an Android TV interface and remote, and now it appears the rumored product may have taken a large step towards reality.
As reported by 9to5Google, the search giant has submitted filings to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US for two new devices under the model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N.
As revealed by Google's filings, the first model is described as an "Interactive Media Streaming Device", while the latter is simply listed as a "Wireless Device", making it highly likely that the models in question are the long-rumored Chromecast Ultra successor and its accompanying remote.
Codenamed 'Sabrina', the alleged streaming dongle is said to act as a Chromecast replacement, allowing users to put away their smart devices and access a full Android TV interface on their television screen that can be controlled via a dedicated remote.
According to a previous report from June, the dongle will boast 4K and 60 FPS output, support for HDR and Dolby Vision and an "auto low latency mode" which may help reduce Google Stadia lag.
Of course, we won't know for sure until Google makes an official announcement, which should be soon given the FCC filing.
