Where to buy a Nintendo Switch in Australia

With things slowly getting back to normal in most of Australia's states and territories, Nintendo Switch stock has started return to store shelves and online retailers. That said, the highly sought-after console/handheld doesn't tend to stay in stock for very long, meaning it's best to act fast in order to secure a unit. Here are the best Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite deals in Australia at the moment.

No Nintendo Switch in stock? Here's where to buy a Switch Lite

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a handheld-only console, while the Nintendo Switch functions as a home console, too, plugging into your TV. That said, if you want a Nintendo Switch right now, the Switch Light is far easier to get hold of. Here's where it's in stock right now.

Why is the Nintendo Switch selling out?

It's a combination of a few factors: the global pandemic has led to a rush of people buying the console to fill their hours indoors, which isn't surprising. At the same time, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has released, a long-awaited game and a massive crossover hit that's captured the imaginations of a wider, mainstream audience. The Switch has been regularly selling out for a while now. This has just exacerbated the issue.

In addition, back in February, Bloomberg posted a report warning that a potential bottleneck with component supplies coming out of China (caused by coronavirus) would see stock dry up as soon as April. If the reasoning mentioned in that report was correct, it looks like they were pretty on the money with the timing, except stock looks like it'll be gone even faster than that.

"Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the US, but more systems are on the way. We apologize for any inconvenience," is what Nintendo told THR in a statement. So, more stock is on the way. But when will you you be able to buy a Nintendo Switch?

When will the Nintendo Switch be back in stock?

The situation is hard to predict given that Nintendo has reportedly faced supply line issues over the current health crisis, but Nintendo intends to make 10% more consoles than it did in 2019 to help meet the increase in demand (assuming its supply lines can keep up). A Nintendo representative told Nikkei, though, that it can't be sure how many Switch units will be supplied as it procures parts for the console.

Our prediction? The Switch will be hard to get hold of all year, but we'd be surprised if we see many more new units released as parts of the world are in lockdown. We're hopeful we'll see the Switch more readily available in the summer months.

Again, this is just our best guess, but you can be guaranteed that when the Switch does come back, folks will be rushing to claim the new consoles. It's very likely to sell out again.

In the meantime, our advice is to avoid being gouged by third-party sellers who are inflating the price. $299.99/£279.99/AU$469 is the MSRP/RRP for the regular Switch, while $199.99/£199.99/AU$329 is the price for the Switch Lite. Paying above that isn't worth it unless you're picking up a bundle with games and accessories.

Where to buy Nintendo Switch when stock returns

As soon as those consoles hit that warehouse, retailers are going to want to get them on the shelves. And you can bet they'll be flying into delivery trucks just as quickly. If you hear word that the Nintendo Switch is back in stock in the US, Amazon and Walmart will be your best bet.

With massive warehouse inventories, speedy delivery, and quick checkout processes, these retailers are primed to pick up your Nintendo Switch order ahead of the queue. Plus, in all our time covering Nintendo Switch bundle deals, these stores have consistently won out in value, meaning you're more likely to grab some extras for your cash.

In the UK, Currys and Game are likely to offer the first bundles of the pack, though don't underestimate the power of Argos same day delivery if you want your console now. We'll likely see the best prices come out of Currys, who are normally reluctant to increase the cost of the console as demand reaches its peak, and if you're looking for the fastest checkout times to secure yours before everyone else, you'll want to keep an eye on Amazon as well.

If stock has already been wiped clean at these retailers by the time you get there, you'll still be left wondering where to buy a Nintendo Switch. Luckily, plenty of non-tech retailers stock the Nintendo Switch as well, so you'll have luck with John Lewis, Jacamo and Studio among others.

In Australia, Amazon is likely your best bet, though it's worth keeping an eye on other online stores, such as Kogan and eBay. While it might take a while, big retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and Big W are also likely to receive new stock, and game retailers such as EB Games and The Gamesmen are also expected to get more units soon.

Don't leave yourself wondering where to buy a Nintendo Switch on the day, get prepped now and you have every chance of bagging one when the masses flock to the shelves.

Right now, you're more likely to find a Switch Lite than you are a regular Switch, but stock is still selling out fast. Here's a quick price comparison chart for the Switch Lite:

Despite getting hiked in price for every generation, OnePlus smartphones have continued to sell well and that is evident with its current flagship, the OnePlus 8 series. A Counterpoint research has revealed that the company has captured the top position in the premium smartphone market in Q2 2020.

According to the research, the premium segment which usually sits around ₹30,000 ($400) or higher in India, saw a 32% YoY decline for Q2 2020. This could be due to lockdown imposed for the entirety of April and early May resulting in almost 40 days of zero shipments.

However, the segment whose share is usually less in the overall smartphone market, contributed more than 4% as the demand went up with the launch of OnePlus 8 series and Apple's affordable iPhone SE 2020. This demand, with a loyal fanbase, and OnePlus 8's features helped the company to gain a market share of 29% in Q2 slipping Samsung to second place.

Despite getting criticised for sub-par cameras, the OnePlus 8 gained the top spot with a 19% share in the segment while the second and third spots are occupied by Vivo's V19 and Samsung with a share of 15 and 12% respectively. That's not all as the company's OnePlus 8 Pro also managed to grab the 2nd spot in the Ultra-Premium category (₹45,000 ($600) or higher) sitting below Apple which retained the top spot with a 42% share.

Though the premium segment saw new entrants like Xiaomi's Mi10 and Oppo's Find X2 Pro, OnePlus's dominance has made even the Apple's iPhone 11 slip from a top position in Q1 to a disastrous fifth spot. This shows that both Apple and Samsung are no longer the only tenants in the segment.

With 5G becoming the new norm for the premium segment in 2020, both the Silicon Valley and South Korean giants, who haven't ventured into the latest connectivity yet, are likely to face more heat from rivals like OnePlus.

Interesting options for Indian users

Facebook has tieups with several top music labels in India. It has licensing deals with T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, Yash Raj Films, Saregama and artists representative body Indian Performing Rights Society for its music products.

"We have been working with partners in the Indian music industry to build the foundation of a music video experience for our consumers, and are thrilled to launch official music videos on the platform," Manish Chopra, Director, and Head of Partnerships, Facebook India, said in a press release.

Over time, the experience will become more personalized to your tastes based on artists you follow and videos you engage with. The Music destination in Facebook Watch will be available on desktop and iOS and Android mobile devices, Faebook said.

Facebook by signing deals with music labels is making them its ally. For, music companies have long complained that YouTube doesn’t pay them enough, considering the amount of music consumed on the site, and they also argue YouTube has been too loose with copyright protections.

The Google Pixel 4a is officially hours away from launch and, as we’ve come to expect these days, has quite thoroughly leaked by this point. Still, that hasn’t stopped a new raft of official-looking renders, specs and pricing details spilling out in these final moments.

Google’s upcoming mid-range handset (and successor to the well-received Pixel 3a) has been hotly anticipated for months, but a few days ago we got confirmation from Google that it would be landing August 3, although no exact time was mentioned.

And over the weekend, a fresh set of leaks have landed in the form of renders, specifications, and US pricing from leaker Ishan Agarwal, all of which more or less confirm the previous torrent of exposed details we’ve seen.

As the tweet states, the Pixel 4a is expected to cost $349 in the US (about £270 / AU$490). The new leaks also suggest the Pixel 4a 5G will launch towards the end of the year (arriving alongside the Pixel 5 flagship) and will be priced at $499 (around £380 / AU$700).

The specs detailed in the tweet include the 6GB RAM, 128GB storage configuration we were anticipating, along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset, 5.81-inch FHD+ HDR OLED punchhole display, and the 3,140mAh battery.

While there’s no way to completely verify these claims, considering the proximity to the official launch it’s highly likely that these are indeed the final renders, pricing and specs for Google’s next mid-range powerhouse.

Stick around, as we’ll have plenty more to share with the official launch in the coming hours.
