Dell G5 15 SE laptop - $1,124.67 (roughly £880/AU$1,600)
This Dell laptop might be designed for gaming, but we think it's up there with the best mobile workstation deals around - and it's currently far cheaper than ever before. An 8-core AMD Ryzen CPU, 16GB RAM and 1TB storage make this quite the machine indeed.
View Deal

Dell has provided us with perhaps the best reason for anyone to ask their employer for a gaming laptop, in the form of the Dell G5 15 5505 Special Edition.

It's arguably more powerful than most mobile workstations in its price range, plus it comes with a digital copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and $70 back in rewards. You also won't have to pay interest on installments, provided the full fee is paid within 12 months (subject to terms and conditions).

This is a stunning deal given the specifications; the special edition model houses an 8-core/16-thread AMD Ryzen 7 4800H CPU with Radeon Graphics clocked at 2.9GHz. It also has a separate AMD Radeon RX 5600M GPU with 6GB GDDR6 and AMD’s Smartshift technology, which “dynamically shifts power in your laptop to help boost performance for gaming, video editing, 3D rendering, content creation and productivity”.

The machine also boasts 16GB memory (two 8GB modules), a 512GB PCIe NVMe M2 SSD and a 15.6-inch FHD LED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and rated at 300 Nits.

Dell's device comes with a 51Whr battery, Windows 10 Pro, two speakers with Nahimic 3D Audio, plus Intel’s Killer Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity - and you get a 12-month subscription to McAfee LiveSafe security software to boot.

In terms of connectors, there's a Mini DP, USB-C DisplayPort (Alt-Mode only), two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 connector, an SD card slot, headphone jack and an Ethernet plug. In theory, you should be able to connect up to three 4K monitors at once.

Bear in mind

  • If the Dell G5 15 SE is not available in your region, you may need to use a specialist parcel forwarding service to take advantage of the deal.
  • If you've managed to get hold of a cheaper product with equivalent specifications, in stock and brand new, let us know and we'll tip our hat to you.

The ereader market is one that's long been dominated by just two players in many parts of the world – Amazon's Kindle and Rakuten's Kobo – but just like we've seen with smartphones over the last several years, that cozy situation could soon get shaken up by a new Chinese competitor.

As spotted by Notebook Check, a product called the Xiaomi Mi Ebook Reader has recently been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, and will boast the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard. That means the device could arrive with audiobook support, much like the current range of Kindle ereaders.

Xiaomi isn't new to the world of ebook readers. Last year, the company launched two devices exclusively in China – the iReader T6 in May and the MiReader in November. Both only support the Chinese script, but if this listing is anything to go by, Xiaomi may be gearing up to release an ereader globally.

Deep in Mi book

No specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi device have been revealed, and it's as yet unclear whether the ereader is actually a brand-new product or a reincarnation of one of the existing Xiaomi models.

Going by the name of the product listing on the Bluetooth SIG database – Mi Ebook Reader – it does seem likely Xiaomi could be rebranding its existing MiReader. If that's the case, the new device will likely feature a 6-inch E Ink capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 (or 212ppi). That's the same display specifications of the newly announced Kobo Nia and a step up from the 167ppi screen on the entry-level Amazon Kindle model.

The display on the current MiReader is front-lit and, like the Kobo Clara HD, Libra H2O, Forma and Kindle Oasis, the hue can be changed to filter out sleep-disrupting blue light.

Under the hood is a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a whopping 16GB of internal storage – that's double the capacity found in any Kobo and four times what's included with the cheapest Kindle. The MiReader also comes with Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi, uses Android 8.1 as its operating system and has a very respectable 1,800mAh battery. That's more than any other popular ereader can offer right now.

Another feature the MiReader has that's currently not on any other ereader on the market is USB-C charging.

And much like the Kobos, the MiReader can support a wide variety of file formats, including EPUB, MOBI, PDF, TXT, DOC and XLS. It's also very portable, measuring in at 159.2 x 116 x 8.3 mm and weighs a touch more than the Kindle and Kobo Nia (178g versus 172g and 174g respectively).

The MiReader is also quite affordable, with an RRP of ¥599 in China (about $86 / £67 / AU$120). If the new Xiaomi ereader can enter global markets at a similar price point, then both the basic Amazon Kindle and the Kobo Nia might face some stiff competition.

It's been rumored for a while, but now a new Doritos promotion has seemingly confirmed the title of the next Call of Duty game, along with a possible release window for the highly anticipated war shooter.

Having entered the second sub-title phase in its 17-year history, the next CoD will reportedly be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as evidenced in a tweet by TheGamingRevolution.

The leak appears to corroborate previous reports that the game would return to the setting and time period of the original Black Ops – it's believed the game will focus heavily on the Vietnam War, allowing players to play from not only the US perspective, but also the South Vietnamese and Viet Cong.

When can we expect it to release?

While the Doritos promotion itself does not explicitly reveal a launch date for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, there's a lot that can be gleaned from its fine print.

The promo, which commences on October 5, 2020 and offers players a year's worth of double XP, is very similar to a previous promotion for last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which kicked off on October 1, 2019 ahead of the game's launch later that month on October 25.

While that isn't exactly a confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will come out at the end of October this year, it's very likely that developer Treyarch and publisher Activision are planning an equivalent release rollout for the upcoming game.

Possible roadblocks

Of course, there are a number of variables which could throw a spanner in the works in the lead up to release.

Putting aside the pandemic which may have slowed down development of the game, new Call of Duty titles have traditionally been announced much sooner than this (usually around June in time for E3, which was cancelled this year).

However, now that the cat is out of the bag, we expect an official announcement from Activision to arrive very soon, possibly alongside a shiny reveal trailer. We'll keep you posted as more information arrives.
