The wait is over and Major League Baseball is back for a shortened 2020 season that kicks off with an Opening Day double-header tonight. Read on as we've got all the details of how to watch the Giants vs Dodgers online and live stream all the MLB action today.

Giants vs Dodgers cheat sheet

Tonight’s Dodgers vs Giants game takes place in Los Angeles, California at Dodgers Stadium and starts at 10.08pm ET / 8.08pm PT. It’s being shown nationally on ESPN - available to cord cutters as part of a great value Sling TV Orange package.

The Dodgers and Giants will play the first of a series of three games tonight at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles to help kick off the 2020 MLB season. The Blue Crew will be hoping to keep up last season’s momentum, when they finished the regular season top of the NL West before losing to the Nationals in the Division Series. Meanwhile, the Giants be looking for something of a fresh start this year, after ending the 2019 MLB season third place in the NL West.

This will be the Giant’s first game under their new manager Gabe Kapler, after Bruce Bochy retired at the end of last season, and fans hope it might be the change the team needs to turn things around. However, any surge in expectations has been tempered by the fact that the G's six-time All-Star catcher, Buster Posey, won’t be playing this year, choosing to sit the season out due to coronavirus concerns.

The Dodgers also have a significant opt-opt this year in new pitcher David Price, but the real prize of their off-season raid on the Red Sox, star outfielder Mookie Betts, will be playing tonight. In fact, he'll be playing in LA for a very long time, with the 2018 league MVP just inking a 12-year, $365m contract extension.

Whether you’re a Dodgers fan in Los Angeles, a Giants fan in San Francisco or just want to tune in to see all the action at Opening Day, we’ll show you how to get a Giants vs Dodgers live stream from anywhere in the world.

How to watch the Giants vs Dodgers from outside your country

If you're in the US tonight, then getting a Dodgers vs Giants live stream should be no problem, as the game is being shown on ESPN - available via both cable TV and a number of over-the-top platforms.

Anyone out of the country might run into more difficulty, though, as geo-blocking  will stop you from watching the same services and content you normally would at home - even though you pay for them.

Fortunately, a solution exists in the form of a VPN - a handy bit of software that will let you regain access to your normal baseball live stream, no matter where you are in the world. It does this by re-routing your device's IP address back to the location you choose - in this case, probably the US, but possibly elsewhere.

This functionality also means that VPNs are great for getting around in-market black out restrictions, making them something every MLB fan should have in their bat bag. But which one should you swing for?

Giants vs Dodgers live stream: how to watch MLB Opening Day in the US

Tonight’s Opening Day MLB action is a double-header on ESPN with the Yankees vs National game first, followed by the Dodgers vs Giants at 10.08pm ET / 9.08pm CT/  8.08pm PT.

As tonight’s game is being shown on ESPN, this means that local coverage, which is usually provided by SportsNet LA (for the Dodgers) and KNTV (for the Giants), will not be available.

If you live in the US and have a cable subscription, you’ll be able to watch tonight’s Giants vs Dodgers game on ESPN. You can also stream the game online through the ESPN website but you will need to login with the credentials from your cable provider to do so. If you don’t have cable though, you can still watch this game on MLB.TV or with an over-the-top streaming service.

MLB.TV will let you watch every game of the 2020 season for a one-off payment of $59.99 (or $49.99 for a single team), but there's one huge catch in that it's only designed for out-of-market viewing. This means if you're local to either Los Angeles or San Francisco, you'll find the game blacked out - unless you use a VPN as per our guide above, of course.

Of the OTT options, we think Sling TV is the best fit for most people's baseball watching needs. It offers access to all the channels you need to watch prime-time games - ESPN, TBS, Fox Sports and MLB Network - and packages from just $30 a month, as well as coming with a FREE trial period so you can see if it's right for you.

Here are all of your over-the-top options in full. All prices are per month, based on the package or combination of packages that gets you access to the most MLB games.

  • Sling TV $55 - All the cable channels a baseball fan needs to watch the biggest games in one place. A combined Sling Blue and Orange package for $45 covers ESPN, TBS and Fox Sports, while $10 adds Sports Extra and MLB Network (plus NHL Network, NBA TV, beIN Sports, ESPN U, Tennis Channel and more). On balance, our favorite option and you can try a FREE Sling TV trial - but note local coverage is limited.
  • YouTube TV $64.99 - The best option after Sling, YouTube TV includes ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1, MLB Network and TBS. Many local networks and regional networks are also covered, six accounts are included in the price, and a free trial is available.
  • Hulu $54.99 - A good option, Hulu with Live TV includes ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1 and TBS but does not come with the MLB Network. It does, however, offer local networks in select markets. Free trial offered.
  • AT&T TV Now $55 - Another solid offering, AT&T TV Now gets you ESPN, Fox Sports and TBS but, again, not MLB Nework. Local TV coverage is available in select markets. Free trial offered.
  • fuboTV $54.99 - Not necessarily worth considering for baseball fans, Unfortunately it does not have ESPN, MLB Network or TBS - though it does offer strong local coverage and offer a free trial.

Dodgers vs Giants live stream: how to watch MLB online in the UK

BT Sport has the broadcast rights to all MLB games in the UK through 2021 and all of the channels you’ll need to watch this season’s games will be available through one of BT’s many TV bundles, or as an add-on for Sky TV and Virgin Media customers.

Tonight’s Dodgers vs Giants game will be shown on BT Sport 1 beginning at 3am BST. Due to the time difference, the game will be in the early hours of Friday morning.

If you’re not a BT Sport subscriber yet, you can still get access to the network’s content without locking yourself into a lengthy contract by signing up for a Monthly Pass for £25.

It’s also worth noting that MLB.TV is also available in the UK for approximately £50 a month. You get access to the same games and content as US viewers do but you won’t have to worry about blackout rules which will no doubt make it easier to watch baseball this season.

Alternatively, cord cutters can also subscribe to TSN’s streaming service, TSN Direct for just $24.99 a month. TSN’s French language counterpart, RDS has an equivalent offering that also shows MLB live on TV and online.

Workplace from Facebook has announced that it is redesigning its website as well as the Workplace Chat iOS app to provide users with more a modern and powerful experience.

The communication tool's website has been redesigned to mirror Facebook's own infrastructure and this will allow the company to introduce more features down the line to help employees connect and collaborate while working from home.

Today though, Workplace has introduced several new functionalities and features including dark mode, full width mode, a better post creation experience, faster navigation and greater accessibility tools. System admins will be able to enable all of these new features for their entire Workplace beginning on August 12 though they will be able to set the start date to anywhere between then and September 23.

Additionally, the company decided to remove the “set nickname” feature that allowed chat participants to set nicknames for one another in order to lighten the infrastructure of the Workplace Website and Workplace Chat iOS app.

Workplace Chat iOS app

Workplace is also rebuilding its Workplace Chat iOS app to improve performance and productivity while also greatly reducing the amount of space the app takes up on users' devices.

The company's developers have completely rebuilt the app from the ground up on an entirely new code base and some less popular features have been removed. In their place though, Workplace is adding a dark mode, faster navigation and the app will now load messages faster thanks to its reduced size.

System admins that wish to be part of Workplace's early access program can choose to test out the app for themselves or for their entire organization by going to the early access section of What's New in the admin panel.

A new chat app and website will likely be welcomed by remote workers and system admins working to ensure that everyone can communicate and stay productive while working from home.

Back in February, before many of us realised we’d be spending most of our waking lives seated at our home computer due to Covid lockdowns, furniture designer Herman Miller announced a collaboration with Logitech G to “design and manufacture the next generation high-performance furniture solutions for gamers”.

Today, the product of their joint efforts has emerged in the form of the Embody Gaming Chair – a hybrid of the existing Herman Miller Embody line of ergonomic office seats and the extra gaming-specific touches introduced by Logitech’s dedicated gaming brand, Logitech G.

With the unveiling of the new chair comes the announcement of its price tag – an eye watering $1,495 (£1,195, about AU$2,300) – which perhaps shouldn’t be a surprise if you’re familiar with other products from Herman Miller.

The designer furniture brand is perhaps best-known for its Aeron ergonomic office chair, which features in our round up of the best office chairs available

Herman Miller has brought its renowned clean aesthetic and attention to comfort and back support to this collaboration, resulting in a design that’s considerably less ‘loud’ than most other gaming chairs on the market.

It also features a good deal more in the way of ergonomic support, with an adjustable ‘spine’ and flexible ‘ribs’ that claim to tailor-to and support each user's individual spine and ribs. Gaming specific features introduced by Logitech G include cooling foam used in the seat and lower back of the chair, as well as a seat that supports a more “active, vertical sitting position” for the more intense gaming moments.

The Embody Gaming Chair isn’t the only fruit of the pair’s labor, with Herman Miller and Logitech G also announcing the Motia, Ratio, and Nevi adjustable gaming desks with matte black, anti-smudge and anti-glare finishes, alongside the Ollin Monitor Arm to complete the set.

The Motia is available for preorder in the US at a cost of $1,295 (about £1,000 / AU$1,800), while in the UK the Nevi can be preordered for £995. The Ollin is likewise up for preorder in the US and UK, priced at $295 / £175 respectively (about AU$400). Official pricing and availability for the desks and arms in regions outside the US and UK has yet to be confirmed.

Viotek NB24C curved monitor - $109.99 (roughly $85)
Curved monitors are usually associated with gaming rigs, but can be a great option for businesses too. Thanks to this exceptionally affordable 24-inch model from Viotek, it's cheaper than ever to sample the concave display experience. View Deal

The idea of using an inward bending monitor to enhance immersion is usually associated with gaming or consuming entertainment media, but there’s also genuine interest from professionals who desire color uniformity and, let’s be honest, something slightly different.

Well, the Viotek NB24C could be all this and more; this is the smallest and the cheapest curved display we've come across. Its size (24-inch) and price ($109.99/around £85) are also ideal if you want to set a couple of them side by side for even more curvature.

Viotek claims its frameless 1800R curved display offers full HD, 16:9 widescreen and pixel-perfect clarity with a 75Hz refresh rate.

Since the monitor is compatible with AMD’s Freesync, input lag, image ghosting, tearing and stutter will also be reduced - a bonus for gamers.

The small print shows the panel is an LED back-lit LCD hybrid that has a 1M:1 dynamic contrast, 16.7M colors and 96% sRGB gamut. Note, there are also six preset screen settings and a pair of 3W speakers (but no audio in).

The monitor also offers VGA and HDMI ports, a VESA adapter to mount the monitor, plus anti-glare treatment and an eye-saver mode to filter out harmful blue light.

As with all Viotek monitors, the NB24C has a three-year limited warranty and is supported by US-based customer service team.

Bear in mind

  • It's unclear whether Viotek will ship the NB24C to non-US territories, so international customers may have to use a specialist parcel forwarding service to take advantage of the deal
  • If you've managed to get hold of a cheaper product with equivalent specifications, in stock and brand new, let us know and we'll tip out hat to you.

India's eCommerce industry is gearing up for a set of new regulations that could be put in place as early as next week. Though most of the new rules would revolve around matters related to consumer protection, there is a mandatory provision of mentioning country of origin on imports.

A senior minister of the federal government in New Delhi said these new provisions were part of the Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules, 2020, that are part of a consumer protection law notified a few days back. Under the rules, all eCommerce platforms would be setting up a robust consumer redress mechanism.

The federal minister for Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan said eCommerce platforms would have to provide details around their policies of return, refund, exchange, warranties, delivery and shipment as well as modes of payment. It would also have to clearly define a grievance redress mechanism, charge-back options and payment security guidelines.

The minister said that platform such as Amazon, Flipkart and the newly initiated Jio Mart would have to mention country-of-origin so that consumers could make an informed decision at the pre-purchase stage. However, a government affidavit in a Delhi court clarified that such labels would be necessary only in the case of imported products.

A confusing signal? Not really

In response to a public interest petition in the Delhi High Court, the federal government clarified that declaration of the country of origin on pre-packaged commodities used by eCommerce sites was mandatory only in the case of imported products.

"The declaration of country of origin on the pre-packaged commodity or on the digital and electronic network used for e-commerce transactions is required in case of an imported product and if the product is manufactured indigenously, country of origin may not be mentioned on the product," according to the affidavit, a report by news agency ANI said.

The affidavit was the government's response to a lawsuit filed by a complainant who claimed that the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules of 2011 was amended to include the country of origin or manufacture on eCommerce websites, but was never enforced.

Country of origin only for imports

The lawsuit had named eCommerce giants Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal as parties to the case. In its submission, Snapdeal had termed the requirements as "onerous and unnecessary" and pleaded that increasing the compliance would add to the burden of eCommerce platforms that were already facing tough times due to the poor economic activity caused by Covid-19.

The draft rules for eCommerce platforms said where an eCommerce entity offers imported goods or services on sale, it must mention the name and details of any importer from whom it has purchased such goods or services, or who may be a seller on the platform.

Additionally, eCommerce platforms would now have to acknowledge receipt of consumer complaints within 48 hours and redress the same within one month from that date. They would also have to appoint a grievance officer in their organizations.

The minister also clarified that these rules, when announced formally, would be mandatory in nature and not mere advisories as was the case earlier. This is the first time that India has come out with such detailed rules and regulations around eCommerce companies.
