Update: With the Twitter hack seemingly under control now, full service has been resorted to verified accounts and Wednesday's scam tweets have been deleted.

A major Twitter hack on Wednesday gave people another reason to avoid the often-controversial social media platform, as prominent accounts got roped into the mess and started promoting a clear Bitcoin scam.

What looks to have been a coordinated series of scam messages were tweeted from verified accounts of Apple, Elon Musk and former Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, among others, according to our survey of the damage of the Twitter hack.

Twitter hack Apple 2020

Obviously, don't send money to this cryptocurrency wallet (Image credit: Future)

The exploit – like the one captured above before it was deleted – happened on the 14th anniversary of Twitter's public launch date, July 15. It asked users to send Bitcoin currency to a specific cryptocurrency wallet code.

In return, the scam promised to send twice as much money back to giving users (the latter half of that being the scam...don't expect the check to be in the mail).

This coordinated hack lead Twitter to temporarily shut down the ability to tweet from verified accounts. Service has since been restored and Twitter has issued an explanation as to what happened along with its next steps.

As the moment, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's profile has a bio that simply says #bitcoin. We're unsure if that existed before Wednesday's Twitter hack or if it's a remnant of the attack.

We'll continue to follow the Twitter hack of 2020 and what it means for the social media platform on which multiple heads of state, including US President Donald Trump, can tweet provocative policy messages on a daily basis.

Oukitel WP6 rugged smartphone - $159.99 at AliExpress
(£127/AU$228)
The main selling point of the WP6 from Oukitel is its whopping great 10,000mAh battery - one of the largest we've ever seen in a rugged smartphone to date. It's so large, in fact, you can even use it as a power bank to charge other devices in an emergency.View Deal

Prioritizing a large battery when buying a modern smartphone often means having to compromise on other features; but not so with the Oukitel WP6.

You may not have heard of the brand, but we reviewed one of its rugged smartphones back in 2018 (the WP2), if you want to get a feel for its devices. The WP6, meanwhile, is available in both orange and black at AliExpress for $159.99 (roughly £130/AU$230).

Despite its entry-level status, the WP6 sports some decidedly mid-range features, such as 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. It also boasts a 6.3-inch display with a 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution, which is higher than most laptops.

Its best feature, though, has to be the fact that it is a rugged device, built like a tank with 1.1mm Corning Gorilla Glass, an "aviation metal" frame and IP68 protection.

Another notable feature is its massive 10,000mAh battery - one of the largest we’ve seen in a rugged smartphone to date. With an 18W charger, you should be able to fill it up fairly quickly, and you can also use the WP6 as an emergency portable battery charger if you get caught short.

The device also features an eight-core Mediatek Helio P70 CPU, 48-megapixel Sony camera sensor, 16-megapixel front facing camera and Android 9.0.

It's worth noting the device doesn't support wireless charging or NFC, and we wouldn’t count on Oukitel to provide more than one Android update.

If you're after an alternative, the Blackview BV9100 has an even bigger battery (13,000mAh), but costs more and has a significantly inferior set of components (slower CPU, a third less memory, half the storage, and a lesser camera sensor).

P.S. - We have requested a WP6 for review, so stay tuned!

Gmail is being given a major overhaul to make your working life a lot easier, according to Google's latest announcement. The internet giant is making changes to bring many of its G Suite applications together within Gmail for quicker and easier access to different tools.

Google is hoping the redesigned Gmail will also become a major collaboration and discussion hub thanks to a new feature called Rooms – topic-specific chat rooms similar to Slack Channels. Rooms will be a space where colleagues can share tasks and calendar invites, while also discussing work in real time.

Google Meet, the company's dedicated video conferencing platform, was added to Gmail in April this year and will continue to stay where it is, but will make a new picture-in-picture mode available without leaving Gmail.

Multitasking reinvented

Google Docs is also being integrated into Rooms, and you'll be able to open a full document in a side-by-side pane next to an ongoing conversation. The feature aims to make real-time editing and collaboration simple, again without leaving Gmail.

You'll also be able to share files and assign tasks right from the email platform, making Gmail a one-stop productivity shop.

The integration isn't just limited to Google's own G Suite applications. Third-party apps like DocuSign, Salesforce and Trello will also be available within the new Gmail.

The company will also be rolling out new security features for Chat and Meet, so users can better control who participates in video calls. Unwanted attendees can be locked out and will then also be prevented from rejoining a call. Google has said that anti-phishing protection will also be rolled out in the coming weeks.

The Gmail redesign is currently being tested by select companies, but will soon be rolled out to all G Suite users. Whether these changes will be available to consumer Gmail users as well is unclear at present, but Google has confirmed that the security updates to Chat and Meet will be implemented for everyone.

A great value BT Sport Monthly Pass lets you watch every UFC event including PPVs for just £25 in the UK, while in the US a FREE Sling Orange trial will get you access to ESPN and therefore today's card.

The OnePlus Buds are going to have battery life that doesn’t disappoint with seven-hour playback on a single charge, and we can now confirm that these true wireless earbuds will also charge incredibly fast in an effort to rival the Apple AirPods.

In an interview with TechRadar, the OnePlus Buds' Project Manager, Jay Liu, said that the new OnePlus Buds case will utilize the company’s Warp Charge technology to go from no charge to 10 hours of total charge in just 10 minutes. Let’s contrast that with the AirPods: Apple says that you’ll get just five hours of audio playback with a longer 15 minutes of charge time.

OnePlus Buds owners will be able fast charge, Liu says, using any charger greater than 10w and won’t require special cables. Despite the increased charging speeds, the OnePlus Buds will cap charging at 5v 1.5A to avoid damage to the 430mA Lithium Ion battery inside the earbuds’ case that offers over 20 hours of extra battery life.

Combine that with the seven-hour charge OnePlus unveiled in a recent blog post, and you’re looking at close to 30 hours of playback before needing a charge – seven hours from the earbuds and 23 more from the case. The AirPods, on the other hand, only get about 24 hours when combined with their case.

‘OnePlus more thing…’

When Liu explained the feature to us, he emphasized that users charge their phones every night, but often only charge their headphones right before they use them – hence why it’s so important that the OnePlus Buds support Warp Charge.

What’s less important, Liu tells us, is that the true wireless earbuds support wireless charging right out of the box. “That would add to the cost of the earbuds,” Liu says.

While we weren’t given exact details around the price, our conversation with Liu about the earbuds suggest something more affordable than the Apple AirPods or Google Pixel Buds – potentially under $99/£99. We'll find out for sure on July 21, when the Buds are fully unveiled alongside the new OnePlus Nord smartphone.

Whether that guess turns out to be right remains to be seen, but even without a crazy price, Warp Charge and a 30-hour battery life could make the OnePlus Buds a stiff competitor for the Apple AirPods.
