It’s no secret that there’s fierce competition between Apple and Spotify for dominance over the music streaming space, but if recent reports are to be believed, the two companies are looking to compromise for the sake of their users.

Using Siri to play music on an Apple device has, thus far, been sorely missing the ability to pull up anything via Spotify – an inability intended to encourage more iPhone, iPad and Apple Home devices to use the native Apple Music service instead.

As reported by The Information, however, the two tech companies are in discussions to allow Spotify functionality via the Siri voice assistant, “according to three people familiar with the discussions”.

Earlier in the year, Spotify filed an official complaint with the European Commission over anti-competitive practices put in place by Apple. This was an extensive allegation and included many examples of behavior that blocked Spotify and other music streaming services from fairly competing with Apple Music.

While there’s no word whether any of these other complaints are being addressed in the reported discussions, the Siri compatibility issue is apparently being looked at in relation to new tools (additions to SiriKit) that Apple is providing to audio app developers in order to integrate with its voice assistant.

If the source is to be believed, Apple Music will still remain the default option when asking Siri to play music, but presumably you’ll be able to specify the use of Spotify in the voice command.

While it’s not a sure thing – expecting Siri to start playing nice with Spotify – it could come with the launch of iOS 13, which is the first iteration of the operating system to feature the updated version of SiriKit being discussed.

Twitter is coming up with new ideas to improve the microblogging site, with tests currently underway for letting users follow specific topics so they can easily access content they’re interested in.

It will work exactly how the social site lets users follow specific people (or accounts) – you get to pick from a list of topics that’s been curated by Twitter (using artificial intelligence to populate the list), and then you’ll start seeing tweets from different users on that specific subject in your timeline, along with those from the users you follow.

At present, select Android users are testing the new feature on subjects based around sports, but the topics will be expanded to include TV shows (beware spoilers), celebrities and other popular discussions on the platform.

The topics will be public and if, at any time, you decide you don’t want to be part of the discussion any more (or prefer to steer clear of spoilers), you’ll have the option of unsubscribing, just like how you can already mute certain words or accounts to keep them out of our timeline.

Twitter is also testing the option of letting users create a secondary timeline for topics they don’t want to see in their central timeline.

When this feature is rolled out across the platform, it will make it a lot easier for users to find content relating to specific interests. As of now, if you’re looking for something related to, say, your favorite TV show, you’ll need to use different hashtags and user-curated content to find what you’re after. This isn’t the most user-friendly way of keeping up with your preferred topics – if you don’t know which specific hashtag to use, you won’t see related tweets.

Twitter is also considering adding other features to its platform, like searchable direct messages, support for Apple’s Live Photos and the ability to reorder images after they’ve been attached to a new post, however they're still in the pipeline with no clear indication as when they'll be rolled out.

Tencent Games is gearing up to roll out the PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update and along with a new zombie Infection Mode. To ensure a steady roll-out, servers have been taken down offline for maintenance starting from 00:00 to 04:00 (UTC) on August 13.

The 0.14.0 update to PUBG Mobile was announced during the PUBG Mobile Club Open 2019 tournament held in July this year. The update will bring a new zombie Infection Mode to the gameplay and will allow players to spawn as a zombie during the game against a team of human defenders.

This new mode will enable players to experience the game from a different perspective and the spawning is asymmetrical. It means that a player could either end up on the side of zombies or defenders as the selection is random.

PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update: Infection Mode

As mentioned above, zombie Infection Mode players will randomly land up as defenders or zombies. The objective of a defender is to survive the zombie onslaught and keep the infection at bay. For zombies, however, the aim is to infect all the defenders using abilities and claws.

Each Infection Mode match is divided into two rounds-- surviving the zombies as defenders and as Vanquishers. While defenders will have access to weapons and ammunition, the Vanquisher round will transform the player into a warrior with a sword.

Also, the defenders infected by zombies will turn into one of the same deadly creatures during the game.

Players will also be presented with a new Characters system with the 0.14.0 update in EvoGround matches. It will start with a single character Viktor equipped with a single skill set and levels up with every passing match. These characters can be further customized with different outfits, emotes and voices.

The interface of the lobby has also been tweaked and now displays matchmaking and settings on the same screen. The servers for PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update will go live on August 14.
