The Nubia Z20 is the latest flagship from ZTE and offers one of the boldest designs in any smartphone by adding an entire second screen on the back. Just announced in China, here’s everything that Indians might need to know about the ZTE Nubia Z20, as it’s likely to make it to India later.
ZTE is no stranger to wacky design choices with a dash of practicality. The Nubia Z20 is no different and adopts one of the smartest approaches to get rid of the notch that eats away into the display. The device has a 5.1-inch HD+ AMOLED display on the back and has all the functionality of a standard screen. The main idea here is to use this display as a viewfinder for selfies using the primary set of cameras as there’s no dedicated front camera on the Z20. If you look closely at the images, there’s also a second earpiece along the top edge of the back panel and is likely for receiving calls using the secondary screen.
ZTE Nubia Z20 Specifications
The design is one of the key highlights of the Nubia Z20, with the front being adorned by a curved 6.42-inch AMOLED panel at an FHD+ resolution. The bezels are incredibly slim too, and no notch or hole obstructs the viewing experience. Interestingly, there’s no in-display fingerprint scanner, and the biometrics are handled by dual side-mounted fingerprint scanners, catering to both lefties and righties.
The latest Nubia flagship is powered by the new Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset with 6 or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. The battery is rated at 4,000mAh and supports 27W fast charging.
As for cameras, the ZTE Nubia Z20 has a triple camera array on the back consisting of a 48MP f/1.7 optically stabilized the primary camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP 3x telephoto camera that can create shots with 30x digital zoom. It can also record in 8K or at 1,920fps slow motion, HDR10 recording, and night mode. All of those will be available for selfies too.
The Nubia Z20 runs Nubia UI 7.0 over Android 9 Pie and comes with additional features that help increase the functionality of the phone using the second screen. Since each screen is operated individually, users can have two different apps or two instances of the same app open at the same time. This AMOLED panel can also be used as an always-on-display. Most interestingly, taking a leaf out of Red Magic’s notebook, specific areas of the rear panel can be custom mapped to act as shoulder triggers for gaming.
ZTE Nubia Z20 Price
The Nubia Z20 is now available for pre-order in China starting today (August 8) and will ship August 16 onwards. Available in black, blue and red colour options, the phone is priced at CNY 3,499 (INR 35,000) for the 6 + 128GB variant, CNY 3,699 (INR 37,000) for the 8 + 128GB variant. The top model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will retail for INR 4,199 (INR 42,000).
There’s no information on Indian availability yet, but will be coming to USA, Canada, and Europe sometime in September.

DJI definitely seems to be keeping busy – less than a month ago the Chinese manufacturer debuted the lightweight Ronin-SC gimbal for mirrorless cameras, which was followed closely by the release of its new FPV Goggles.
According to a 15-second video posted on its official YouTube channel, DJI is gearing up to announce something new on August 13.
The teaser itself doesn’t seem to hold any clues as to what might be making its debut next week, but based on some other evidence, it could well be the next generation Osmo Mobile smartphone gimbal.
DroneDJ was the first to unearth details about the Osmo Mobile 3, thanks to a public FCC filing made on July 31.
Amongst the paperwork filed is the user manual for the upcoming gimbal, giving us a clear idea as to what to expect. The Osmo Mobile 3 will be larger than its predecessor, with dimensions of 286 x 126 x 98mm and weighing in at 405g. However, the phone grip will fold down to rest alongside the handle for easy storage.
It also looks like the new gimbal will be able to fit bigger and wider phones (perhaps even the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series). It will be armed with Bluetooth Low Energy 5 to optimize power consumption and, unlike the Osmo Mobile 2, will charge via USB-C.
Droning on and on
If you’re expecting DJI to announce new drones, you may need to wait a while. An eagle-eyed Norwegain reader pointed out to DroneDJ that a special section on the DJI website lists the paperwork for the European Union Declaration of Conformity – including those for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro+ and the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom+.
We’re not expecting the possible new drones to make an appearance until 2020 as DJI recently announced it will be implementing aircraft sensors in its consumer drones starting January 2020. These ADS-B sensors will allow the drone pilot to detect and avoid low-flying helicopters and airplanes nearby.
Going mirrorless
DJI has also filed a patent for an interchangeable lens camera that looks very similar to the Hasselblad X1D-50c. A deep dive into the patent application by Gizmodo Japan has unearthed design images and 3D models of the camera from various angles, giving us a complete look at what could be DJI’s first mirrorless camera, including the markings on the rear controls.

Over the span of Google Search’s decades-long lifetime, new and convenient features have been constantly implemented to help provide more immediate information and links for popular search types, and now the tech giant is giving that same treatment to podcasts.
Announced today on the Google blog, users searching for a podcast via Google will notice an extra section show up among their regular search results, displaying a carousel of individual podcast episodes that are available online.
The function works when using search phrases such as “podcasts about space”, or “true crime podcasts”, and Google claims that “soon, you won’t necessarily need the term ‘podcast’ in your search to see episodes”.
If you’re wondering how Google is able to find these episodes – even if the title isn’t necessarily part of the search terms – it’s because the results are “based on Google’s understanding of what’s being talked about”.
As reported by Android Police earlier in the year, the company had begun transcribing podcasts found on its native Google Podcasts service, in the hope that the metadata will be useful for search results. Today, we’re likely seeing the results of this.

You can’t currently listen to the podcast direct from the search results, it will instead click through to the Google Podcasts web app, but support for third-party apps and websites that may hold exclusive rights to a podcast will be supported in the future, greatly increasing the potential search results.
The blog post also mentions that the tech giant will be bringing the same functionality to Google Assistant later in the year, as well as the dedicated Google Podcasts for web, from which you’ll be able to also listen directly to the episode from the search result.
English language users in the US are the first to receive the feature, but if you don’t yet see it in your search results, it’s safe to assume it will be with you soon as the global rollout process is currently underway.
